What video camera do you use
Hey guys, what kind of video cameras are you using to video your track days. I've been using my flip video (original one) that records 640x480 and does a real good job. I have added another camera mount and was going to buy the 3rd gen Flip with 720 HD but thought I'd see what you guys have been using and liked first. thanks in advance.

Be sure to change the resolution to 1080p to get the awesome video quality these things get!
Also, on the second video, I got up to 100mph (on a closed road in Mexico) and the wind noise is minimal. Camera was mounted to the outside of my trunk lid.

Sure seems to be a lot of cars for a closed road ???

What are you gonna do with the video???
If you're going to use it to analyze your track sessions, I find that VGA resolution (640x480) is great. If you run in a 25-30 minute session you'll be using a lot of memory if you're recording in HD resolution.
It takes a long time to upload a 5 minute VGA video to YouTube, and a looooooong time to upload a large HD file of 5 minutes of video!!
If you're publishing to the web for advertising or promotional purposes, then HD is probably what you want.
I have a ChaseCam that is integrated with my Traqmate data acquisition device, and I record at 640x480 so my files aren't too huge.
At the recent NCM VIR HPDE my ChaseCam wasn't working, so I recorded with my Aiptek at 640x480:
I do have a "bullet cam" that I can mount remotely and plug it into the Aiptek that I can then keep in the console.
I consider those low res videos perfectly satisfactory for analyzing my track sessions, especially when viewed wih the Traqmate software with all the data from the Traqmate.

Thanks guys, some good info to consider here. It would be cool to see it in HD but it makes sense if you are going to upload it or just using it as a tool to critique myself then 640x480 like I'm using now would be fine. HD would be great to watch on your TV to relive the moments too. Can you choose lower resolution with some of these HD cams like the Go Pro, etc?

I also use the GoPro , you can mount it inside or outside . They have
quite a few mounts for it . You can shoot 720p,960p, or 180p.It also can
shoot stills . You can go to there web site at GoPro.com and check them
out. There about $300 .
Good luck with what ever choice you make. Tris

I use the GoPro and really think it is great. I have the HD Hero 1080p. The new ones also have a setting so you can flip the image incase you want to hang ti from something upside down. I did this at an HDPE. I attached to the inside of the windshield and it worked great. I have also taken it to several karting and autocross events.

Yeah, mine is from last year, so no option to flip the image on the camera.....NO big deal at all...any video processing software will easily rotate the image to be right side up.

Same here except with $30 wide angle lense. My big screen tv is 720p so I record in 720p at 60fps. Looks good on 120" screen. Here is a quick clip with wide angle lense:

PS: can someone pm how to display vid and not just the link.

You just put in the letter code at the end of the link with yt tags. Like [.yt] and end [./yt] with sSUzhPXKYTk between them. Just remove the . so like this:
I have the Aiptek as well, looking forward to 720p 60 fps. I have been using an older cam with 640 and I can't stand how blurry it is anymore!!!

The 60 fps is supposed to lessen the Jello look many of these SD cameras develop when recording at 30fps. I've tried it on mine and it appears to be better, but that could be just perception.

yep, 60fps works great. I've ran an aiptek A-HD+ for a few years now with a $30 wide angle magnetic lense:
Here are a couple of my Aiptek video's:
A couple of years ago at RA with Sperkins and me in a different car:

*BE ADVISED* DO NOT PURCHASE THE 2011 SONY HD CAMERA'S!!!!!!!!!
They changed the digital sensors and do not work well for track purposes. I purchased the HDR-CX 160 and learned this lesson the hard way. Traqmate just discovered this as well from myself and another customer. However, the 2010 and back Sony HD camcorders like the 110 and 150 work great and automatically synch with your traqmate data.
