Default New setup - 17" C5Z wheels with 275/40/17

This is the setup I'm looking at using on my '00 vert for autocross events. I'm new to the game so please be nice.... I want to run all four the same to be able to rotate them around to get more tire life.

Tires are possibly Nitto NT05. Any advice?
Will the 'square' setup affect my Active Handling and ABS?
Is there a better setup suggestion?

Thanks,

-KOZ

I run 275/40/17 square on my C5Z for track days and it works well. It all depends on your car setup and driving style (how much oversteer/understeer you have).

It won't affect ABS but may affect TC/AH. I would recomend turning off TC/AH for auto-x. You want to be sliding the car to a small degree.

Should make for a nice nimble set-up. Like Mike said, you're AH may flip but just turn it off

I'm using that set up now for track days the TC/AH will cut off but if you turn it off before going out you'll have no problems.

You might want to think about the Nitto NT555RIIs. I use them for track days and they work well.

I have a set of c5z 17" wheels w/Hankook C71s mounted (10 heat cycles), for sale, if you are interested. I never had an tcs/abs issues with this setup.

I ran 4 17x9.5 Z06 wheels with a 275 for a bit before moving to 4 18x10.5 Z06 wheels. They are very very light, but I felt the car to be a bit squirrelly comout out of turns. The lower profile tire used with the 18" wheel just felt better.

However, for consumables cost and weight it's hard to beat the 17x9.5 setup. If I were just doing HPDEs that's what I'd run for sure.

I'm using this setup to keep learning. Anyone can throw A6's on a 12" wheel and blister around the track.

It will not bother the AH but may bother TC. AH uses steering, yaw and g sensor inputs to determine when to activate so what the wheels are doing isn't as important to it as TC.

I was just lazy when I typed AH and didn't include TC, I think of it all as one PITA system that has little use.

A square setup is not ideal for autox, if you want square & rules allow (I guess they do) an 18" would be better than 17", maybe 295 all around (but I wouldn't do it).

I would expect you to have trouble putting power down coming out of turns with little 275's on the rear. I have run A6 335's (rear) and can break them loose all day long if I get on the gas too quick.

TC/AH is looking for a .7 inch f/r differential (tire height). There is some tolerance, but any time I have got close to the same height f/r my nanny comes on. This can be overridden by turning tc/ah off.

I am a fan of the square set-up, I run that. Being able to rotate tires front to back can really help with "wear" issues. Turn off the AH/TC anyway. I do like the 18" wheels and lower sidewalls for my driving style, but the 275-40-17's are a bargin and very effective as well.
