Default Corner weight - where to go on East Coast?

Hey guys:

I live in eastern PA and I'm looking for a place that will corner weight and align my c5z. Does anyone know of any places in the area? My zip code is 18088.

Thanks.

Does anyone know of a place closer and does not charge as much? I called phoenix and they want like $400 to do it.... I think that is steep.

Yeah that seems like a bit much, but you know it'll be done right

Yes it is expensive, but "You get what you pay for". I have had alignments done at other specialty shops and sometimes they can come out wrong. Phoenix will stand by their work.

That's cheap. I would love to pay $400 for weight balancing - done right. Here's an article I did a few years back for Porsche. I'm currently working on a new one for Vintage Motorsport magazine. Not much has changed except the scales today are more complex. They can calculate everything for you.

Here's my column.

Last year I took my car to Phoenix for ride height, align and corner weighting. Mark spent at least 5 hrs on the car and talked me thru every step. To do it properly is a labor intensive operation. Especially setting the ride height. He literally would make a couple of adjustments and then drive the car around the parking lot, then back on the lift for measurements. Before arriving, I too thought ~400 was a lot of money (especially after paying ~80 for alignments on previous cars at typical generic tire shops), but after spending the day talking with Mark and watching him work I completly understand the costs now. As with all things, you get what you pay for.

Its not that much money, and its money well spent.
I had ECS do mine last year and Doug spent a long time, making adjustment with me in and out of the car.

You really do get what you pay for

Does the $400 cover an alignment? If so, that sounds very reasonable.

$400 is just a general ballpark. You pay an hourly rate. I paid over 400 and yes, it did include: ride height adjustment, full align - front and rear and corner weight and balance.

Let me put it to you this way. Back in 04 when I took my 2001 Z06 to them and work their magic, my car was wayyy too low. Phoenix set the correct height, cornerweighted and tuned it and I picked up nearly 3 seconds at Mid Ohio. I spent about $1500 when you include the worn out parts they replaced.

Do you think $1500 to get 3 seconds on a 2 mile course is worth it?

It's the cheapest speed you can buy man!!

thank you everyone for the kind words.. We try to do our best and educate the customer along the way...

We also do a thorough checks of parts for wear and tear, and look over the whole car..

Our techs work primarily on Corvettes and other sports cars...

Curious if you have a leaf spring car or coilovers? I'm told that with leaf cars it's hard to achieve an accurate corner balance. Shop I talked to was reluctant.

They were probably reluctant because they simply do not know the process.

Having just a basic alignment done at FireGoodStoneYear would cost you nearly 100 bucks. If you find someone willing to corner weight/balance and align your car for less than $400 you should run away.

$400 is cheap for the work that should go into it if done correctly and anyone willing to do it for less is either doing it wrong or loosing money on the job. Just my opinion.
