R888's - Freeway Driving in Rain
THIS IS A PUBLIC ROAD REPORT / NOT ON TRACK
Wanted to give a first hand report on driving R888's on Freeways in Medium Strength Rain.
08 Vert, R888's on Stock Split Spokes, 2k Miles and 3 HPDE's on tires.
Was pleasently surprised at how well the tires performed as I drove to S Cal from Infineon this past Sunday in the rain for 3 hours or so. I kept speeds at 65mph or so and left some extra room. I tried some firm braking when traffic permitted and can report no hydro planing or ABS activation.
Was a medium strength rain with some standing water on the Freeway.
I had be hesitant to drive in full rain, but will now do so as needed. I am sure as tires / tread block wear down the grip will fall off as well.

Thanks for that! Some say the RA1 was the best dot racetire that could get wet. problem is they don't come in vette sizes. So it is the r888 or maybe the NT01? It lso has nice grooves in it or maybe the old kumho victor racer

Melting Slicks
NT-01 is not good in the rain I've tried it. They are OK when brand new, but as soon as you get some miles on them, no way. GSD3's were awesome in the rain, but i believe were discontinued

RA1s were decent in the rain. Come to think of it, even bald they worked well as long as there was no standing water.
And they still make the 275/305 combo that worked in the C5Z well, but damn spendy these days, wtf happened to tire prices?

brand new, 100% to 80% tread, I would go with NT-01 for standing water situations. Half worn, probably R888. Will never buy 555 R2 as backup "rain/street" tire again - nowhere close to the two above. If sizing and price were not a problem, I wold definitely go with michelin PS cups for a true dual use tire
