new to hpde
Hey guys,
Im new to HPDE and looking for a different wheel other than my c5 z06 wheels. TWS makes a wheel really cheap, what are your thoughts please and any help is great. I know ccw classics are a big hit as well. thanks

You need to ask yourself a couple of questions. Do you want to run a staggered 17/18 setup or 18's on all four corners? Do you want a tire you can drive to/from the track? A lot of C5 owners drive the stock rear 18x10.5 on all four corners. I'm currently running Nitto NT555 RIIs, 275/40-17s on the front and 305/35-18s on the rear on stock C5Z wheels. The most cost effect option is to find an additional set of stock C5Z wheels.

You can find Z06 wheels if ur patient. Otherwise CCW are hard to beat for quality and price. Recommend you carefully consider what tires ur going to use and check size and price carefully before.making a decision. Also consider future brake upgrades may require more clearance on the fronts so 18s would be good but going larger makes tire selection challenging. Good luck!

For HPDEs I'd get 4 17x9.5 front C5Z wheels and run a 275/40/17 Nitto R2 or Toya R888 type tire. Nobody seems to want the front wheels so you can get them quite cheap. Everyone wants the 18x10.5s for racing so they can run 295s-315s and clear big brake kits etc.

I'm gonna be running the 17x9.5 fronts on all 4 corners. I think I'm gonna go with NT-01s.
Not only are the 17s way cheaper but by staying square I can rotate front to rear as well as side to side for even wear.

I run another set of stock Z wheels... 17s up front, 18s in the rear. They are light, relatively cheap to buy used, and clear a couple of upgraded caliper/rotor kits.
Be good,

To OP== Your C5 Z06 wheels are popular with folks on track because they are light, stout, plentiful and affordable. My advice is to stay with them for now. Spend your money on seat time. Just my 2 cents worth.

AP has an upgrade kit that works with OEM size. Hardbar has those. Also, wilwood SL6's will clear 17". However, running square does offer more tire rotation possibilities and helps considerably on getting more life from expensive tires. IF you are going to a big brake kit in the future, 18" would be the way to go. Personally, I no longer try to chase the fastest car at the track. It gets way too expensive so I simply run my 100 treadwear rated tire on my 17"/18" most of the time. I have the SL6's and they serve me well enough to have great fun. I did upgrade to the 2 piece rotors in front so that I can run aggressive pads and not worry as much about spending time in the pits changing out cracked rotors.

Enkei NT03+M in 18x10.5 +64 offsett. Call TireRack. Should still be available for around $1200 per set.

I couldn't help myself. I went ahead and built a forged bottom end and stuck some goodies on top again. However, trying to run a top notch sticky tire for only HPDE's just ain't worth it. The 2 pc. rotors are a worthwhile investment for anyone running track but they are a little pricey.
