Develop it at the racetrack - put it in the C7!

flat black GT vette is amazing looking. Sad about the move to paddle shifting though.

I'll be watching the comments on the paddle shifter. It'll be nice if it really is less likely to break than the sequential gear box.

I got the chance to see that car back in October. A buddy of mine works there and showed me the new paddle shift setup. Very cool stuff.

Would be nice to see a proper paddle shift being used, just dont think it'll replace the normal manual just be another option for those that want it in the road car.

It could be the only option. Going with a DCT they could eliminate the automatic trans completely and only have one transmission for all purchasers. That would save GM a lot of money and give the people who want a direct drive transmission and the ones that want an automatic what they are looking for. What difference does it really make to the driver whether they do gear selection from a stick in the console or from paddles on the steering wheel? The reason people don't like the current paddle shifters isn't so much due to them being paddle shifters as they are not configured correctly and they control an automatic transmission with a torque converter Vs a direct drive clutched transmission that happens to have the capability of being operated as an automatic.

If an Econo Box like the 2012 Ford Focus can have a DCT why shouldn't the C7 Vette?

I can tell you from experience a true paddle shift is a lot faster.

I have to disagree with you there Bill. For me part of the driving experience is working the 3 pedals, rev matching, being able to select whatever gear I want - that delicate dance that is driving a performance car with a manual.

When I bought my CTS-V a couple years back I test drove both and what I didn't like about the auto wasn't the tranny itself - it was the lack of involvement I felt while driving it. True that a paddle shift dual clutch tranny may be a better performer but it's just not as much fun to me.

FWIW, I've been day dreaming about getting a new 911 and lurking on some of the P-car boards. There was a good thread on this just the other day and Porsche does offer a very nice dual clutch gearbox.

I thoroughly enjoy rowing the boat and used to agree about driver involvement, until I drove the F430. That trans is unreal.
