Default Looking for advice from the experts

I will be doing NASA HPDE's and then hopefully TTA and maybe PTA in 2011. I have a 2004 Z06 and am planning on doing the following:

1) Stop-Tech Aero Rotors on the front
2) Power Slot Rotors on the rear
3) Stop Tech SS Brake Lines
4) Carbotech XP10 on the front
5) Carbotech XP8 on the rear
6) Pfadt Heavy Sway bar
7) Not sure on tires maybe R888's for HPDE
8) Hoosier A6 for TTA

For those who have been doing this for awile what have I missed or need to change ?

I am no expert but since you are in Indiana, may I suggest seat time with 10/10ths if I am correct in assuming you are just beginning track events. You will get real fast and consistent quickly at Putnam Park. Many events there this coming year with 10/10ths.

does Pfadt recommend the HD bars for stock springs???? I have no firsthand experience, but that is a LOT of bar for OEM springs. Maybe a good mix, maybe trouble.

Other than getting your weight down, not much else allowed to do. Maybe brake ducts.

[Edit] To original poster: Unless you've done a tonne of track days, just get out and enjoy HPDE and don't modify the car until you're turning consistent, fast laps. You've got most of what you'll want sorted out. Watch temperatures (water, oil) and go from there.

http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/p...ring_rules.pdf

5.3.I No-points modifications
  • Lightweight battery (relocated to where you need the weight)
  • Lexan Windows
  • Air Filter Upgrade (in stock location)
  • Radiator Upgrade
  • ECU Tuning
  • Oil cooler
  • Lightweight Wheels
  • Ultra-light clutch/flywheel
  • Motor/trans/diff mounts
  • Poly suspension bushings
  • Brake ducts
  • e-Brake removal
  • 2pc brake rotors
  • Driver & passenger race seats

TTA/PTA taken to the max of the rules can be pretty expensive by the looks of it. And that's without really looking at using the points available.

Obviously PTA will require a 6-point cage. :-)

Not really sure why everyone is trying to reinvent the wheel, do your research all the set ups that work have been posted including the fastest TTA C5Z that's been around Mid Ohio (Which is the only track that counts for the next two years)

What I did find is the T1 bars seemed to slow me done at places like Putnam, Gingerman and Grattan but were fast as hell at Mid Ohio

I have run 5 HPDE 's in 2010 so still consider myself really new to this. 10/10ths is on my schedule for 2011. Putnam Park is real close to where my daughter lives so I can drop off the wife and then go play.

Great! Bill runs a safe event with lots of track time. You may want to look at the VIR event in March if you are able to make it. There will be plenty of folks there that compete W2W in other venues and work on their vehicles and know what a person needs. Any of us will be glad to ride with you and answer whatever questions you have. But, I suppose the biggest draw to 10/10ths motorsports is the fun. You will have fun! Look forward to meeting you.

PTA would be a little different, but either way you'll have to do a lot of the "free" mods to be competitive in a good field.

Phadt's HD bars have worked great with stock springs & shocks on our 01 Z06. Lots of lube to keep them quite. The next step is to upgrade to better shocks.

These free mods are great, but they are costing me a lot of money. I can't seem to get the needle out of my arm!

I'd suggest you get a dyno run done, and tune your weight to that, as close as you can. If you are going to run Hoosier A6, they will be starting to fall off after around two laps, at most tracks. That means getting your weight down. I'd try the 255 tires, as they are as wide as the 275, and worth less points (in the 18" wheel).

Typically, you can get away with around 380 RWHP at stock weight, with those tires and so forth. If you do decide to drop weight, there is a sweet spot at 3201 pounds, and another at 3151. The lower limit (unless you are seriously down on power) is 3118, with you in the car. Adjust your HP accordingly, but it'll be more rewarding to drop weight than to add HP, most of the time.

Before you add all this traction and braking capability to your Vette, you need to protect the engine with better cooling of its oil and water ! !

Not if you are running TTs, the extra cooling just becomes excess nose weight. The tires are done by the time the oil temps hit 290*.

W2W in PTA is a different story.

Go with what you have above. Get the car tuned and shoot for low 370s at the wheel. Then pull weight from the car to get to your hp:wt ratio. After that, run it hard.
