Default What kind of race suit to buy?

I started thinking about a race suit for my HPDE and TT events. My last instructor wore a one piece 3 layer nomex suit with a nomex hood under his helmet. I've seen different types of fire proof material on the market. Clothing varies from nomex underwear to single layer top jackets. Due to the 100 degree plus events in the southeast, I don't know if the 3 layer would give me heat stroke or not. What are ya'll using?

Except doors don't always work after an accident or you may not work.

Get a 3 layer nomex you will burn the same on a hot or cold day. I had cotton pants burn on my leg and I don't think you will like the feeling better than sweating.

Get the 3 layer and buy a cool shirt to go under it. The cool shirt system is awesome for hot track days and makes a huge difference.

If you haven't read the GRM article of what happened Charles Espenlaub, you should read it now!

Saferacer, usually has some good suits on closeouts. I picked up a $1000 single peice suit for $500 last winter because it was an outdated style. Just happen to be in my size and the color I wanted too.

Dan, know what you are buying and what you want to use it for. I have two at the house right now that both offer great protection and meet SCCA\NASA standards. But there is a huge difference in the weight and comfort, and it shows in the price. I think I will be at kevin's some time Firday if you want me to bring both with me for a side-by-side comparison.

Driver suits, gloves, shoes, and helmets are usually not a good place to try and save money.
