GM lets you build?

GM is letting us build part of our motors for a price. I wish they would just have a delete option so that we could order a car more track ready and lighter. I would love the car to come with no baby sitters except ABS, no interior, Glass out and roof off so I could weld my cage, no on star, no a/c and NO to a whole bunch more stuff.

I wonder if they would allow you to do some finer tuning, like blueprinting, port matching and combustion chamber volume matching?
What would they would do if you brought in a few of your own parts like maybe a cam, rockers, etc.?
Probably wouldn't be allowed, but it would be cool.

and spending the time with a scale and going through parts bins to have all parts at best factory spec wouldn't be in there time budget to have someone there with you that long

As a friend pointed out,"Anyone remember the story of Tom Sawyer and the fence?"
Is anyone seriously gonna pay money to do the work themselves? I have enough grease under my fingernails already.

OK, so let me get this right. I get to build a motor (which according to the Ultimate Factories:Corvette, it takes about 4 hours to build), and I get to PAY an additional $5K+ for that privledge. If I do someone else's job, I think I should get a $5K discount!! That's why I don't use the self check out at the grocery store...want me to do the cashier's job, then give me the cashier's pay in the form of a 10% discount. It must be the old geezer coming out in me.

You have to see the Wixom facility to really get it. It's not like buiding any motor you've ever seen. I had read about it and talked to people about it but it really can't be explained. It's an assembly line where they push the motors from one person to the next person in line.
Each person on the line gets a box (or boxes) of parts to install. When they get all of the parts installed they're done. It's also very high tech. The tools they use are very very impressive - and I've been in a lot of big time race shops.
I can see paying the money. I might not do it but h*ll I can't even afford the car.
Why would anyone do it? Because they can.

Pricey or not, thats cool! If I had the coin I'd do it in a heartbeat. Just like factory delivery and track time with Ferraris and Porsches, it's just another experience that makes buying and owning these cars really different and cool!
