mounts for Kirky intermediate seats
Been looking for alternatives to the stock sport seats after Autobahn. Found Kirky's 47 series intermediate seat in 18" size. Questions: how have C5'ers been mounting these? Kirky offers floor and back mounts but say you need a roll cage to make it work. I don't have a roll cage, just a BK bar for the shoulder harnesses.

Geez? Instant gratification or what?
C4 standard passenger side seat rails.
Virtually free, robust , and easy to install.
Work well in mine. Recommend a plate between seat and rails to help
stiffen it all up.

They probably want you to mount the back of the seat to a cage.. I made some before Hardbar had his and they are very similar. I have a 4 point bar and the seat mounted to that in the back. Road Race deluxe is another option from then if some are still available as the stopped production of them.

So, I'm always curious about this...
Folks are running around with stock reclining seats in the car, but as soon as they put a race seat in they magically need a seat back brace? What makes the race seat require a back brace when the stock reclining seat doesn't?

The stock seats have self tightening belts so as the seat moves around they kinda keep the driver snug. With a race seat the harnesses are fixed and if the seat flexes it is a very real possibility that a shoulder could slip under the harness. People argue all the time about how fia seat are safer because of no seat back brace. That is absolutely false because of the above. My personal best scenario would be a really good fia seat, something like racetech, with seat shoulder harnesses mounted directly to the seat so not only can the seat move around to disperse some energy, but the driver will always be attached to the seat. Really well done mounting is a must at the bottom.

Looked at the Pfadt site for their seat mounts and couldn't find them. E-mailed the shop and Rob wrote back saying their mounts were under re-design and wouldn't be available until around Feb 2011. Oh well. Looks like Hardbar will be getting a call!

I'm 6'3, 246. I fit into the 17" Kirkey. It's snug, but it's supposed to be. You don't keep your wallet in your back pocket in a race seat. The idea is to connect your butt to the car so you can feel what's going on when you turn.

Be sure to measure your hip width before ordering. Sit on a bench and slide a box or something against each hip. Then stand up and measure the distance between them.
