In Car Camera, whats a good one?
I have been looking at the GoPro Hero HD Motorsport one that comes with all the mounts shoots in HD and handles at 32gb SD card. Looks pretty clear from the videos and for $300 it seems like a solid options.
Are there other good ones that I am missing, any good or bad reviews about the one mentioned above.
Would appreciate all the feeback i can get. I have a track day on the 17th-18th and would like to start videoing myself so i can review my own session and see what i can improve on.
All comments appreciated.
Thanks.

I really like the Vio POV 1.5. Records in DVD quality but does not suffer from "jellyvision" that the GoPro and other CMOS cameras have. Also plugs into your cigarette lighter so you don't have to remember to charge batteries.

This is what I got. With a second battery it was 139. Just used it at VIR and it worked like a charm.

Nice video with the Vio POV, what do you mount that on so its right in the perfect place behind your head. Is there a bar that goes across behind the seats?

I have it mounted to a harness bar, but the actual camera is much lighter than a camcorder so the mounting is much more flexible and easy. The recording unit resides in my center console along with the cigarette lighter plug for power.

Those harness bars aren't cheap. If i am not going for a 5 pt harness yet, there really isn't a cheap way to mount a camera back there. I wonder about the GoPro's suction mount or what looks like a sticky dash mount. Trying not to go ALL out right now but would like video of my laps.

The beauty of the POV is that you can see exactly where it is aimed by using the monitor in the recording unit. I couldn't ever see exactly where my GoPro was pointed.

looking for more info too..
I have a harness bar with flat plate camera mount - how does your camera mount? (my AZ Speed bar sits low so the mount needs to raise the camera up to see over the dash) Will a suction cup mount stuck on the harness bar plate work?

VIO POV 1.5 for me.
Had it for over one season in race car and it is still working (amazing).
Easy to use and you can see a screen to adjust lens.
I use a Longacre roll bar extension used to mount mirrors and it is very light and raises the lens about 6-8 in above harness or roll bar crossbrace.
You can also use an 8 GB SDHC card which should give you about 3 hrs at medium resolution.

I leave my better Sony videocam at home and use an inexpensive "Flip Ultra" camera on the track. It works well enough for my purposes. Kodak has a camera very similar to the Flip videocam that I read some good reviews on.
Not long after the Go-Pro came out I checked out their website....the video taken through the camera looked like it was shot with a fish-eye lens. That turned me off of the Go-Pro. A friend recently bought a Go-Pro and said that isn't the case any more...the video looks 'normal' now.

Well the GoPro got me intrigued because it didn't look like I need the crossbar to mount it in certain places.
Would it be a bad idea to use those adhesive mounts on the dash above the radio just right there in the front. not sure how the height would be?

Keep the comments coming folks. I'm also in the market for a video camera, so I'm all ears.

The GoPro is a battery hog (25 minutes) & the quality leaves a lot to be desired. I went through 2 of them before I found the VHoldR Contour HD. It runs for 3 hours on a charge & can be plugged into 12v aux. It also has 2 aiming lasers which is a big plus. The GoPro uses an optical viewfinder which unless you are a contortionist is useless when mounting it on the rollbar.

I'm just worried about any damage to the dash from the adhesive tape
