Default Places to have fun with my vette

I have been told by my buddy there are places where they take parking lots and setup cones and you can try to see how good you are at handling and such. Where in northen Illinios can I do this and reach top speed?

That sounds like the SCCA organization. But Top Speed is relevant to the lenght of the straights.

Cones in a parking lot, around 100 or less.
Track like Road Atlanta 150mph.
Texas Mile or Nevada desert, 175mph

Most find that taking a turn at 60-80 and feeling your car slide in a controlled fashion is more fun than a straight at 150mph.

but just going to a track may not do it. Joining an organization or club does

You can also check out the midwest region of NCCC. They put on events all over the place.

Cones and top speed are mutually exclusive. You may feel like its 150 in a parking lot, but absolute speed is not there

Top speed would be Road America.

Cones would be Solo II type events run buy Salt Creek Sports Car Club, SCCA, Tri-State & Wisconsin Autocross Inc.

http://www.scscc.net/

Salt Creek does Solo II events as well as high speed Timetrials events sanctioned by MCSCC.

AX is generally less money in entry fees and consumables as well as risk.

TT events have higher speeds, more wear and tear and the risk factor goes up quite a bit.

I do both as you can learn a lot about car control and your car in both types of events.
