Default Redline opinion ??

Been using Redline 10w40 here in fla in high 80 degree weather for street use and track use. The oil pressure seems to be very stable.
Question, is it wurth the extra $$ for Redline?.

Being a rookie with no knowledge of the truth about various oils breaking down due to heat I can't answer your question. I can only state that I was using Royal Purple XPR, 5W-30, which is said to be a top of the line oil. I saw 293F temps and 12 to 16 psi after coming off the track at idle, car is a stock C6Z06 with Coleman rotors and Cobalt pads. A friend who's a pro driver who was with me told me to switch to Redline and increase the weight. What car are you running and is it stock or modded? As far as it being worth the money, I think oil is cheap compared to a motor.

Make oil worth the money by testing it and not being silly and dumping it way to soon as some do. How much is it a qt.? vs Mobil 1 I have not bought any in a while.

Hope Mr. Pro SPANKS your car again SOON and gets to 310+ instead of 293

The royal purple is a great oil , but 5w30 is wat too light for track use.I had the same problem with R.L. soo switch to 10w40. Even with the 10w40 in my opinion is still too light. My car 07 ZO6 with 33000 hard driven mls. NO mods, just suspension.

I dont know exact mileage , i use the on board computer % as a gage.
Seems the % has been dropping a bit faster than before. Dont know if its the high mileage or the oil. 1 thing i know, my car loves to gulp down the R.L. oil, But my Z runs great. Iam wondering if 10w40 is thick enough for the weather down here. I have compared in the past 5w30 mobil and R.L. 5w30 in a glass. The R.L. seems lighter. Iam wondering if the R.L. 5w50 would be better protection for track.

You might want to consider Amsoil 15W-50 Racing Oil. I've been using it and have noticed very stable and higher oil pressure and slightly cooler oil temps. There is an Amsoil Dealer listed in the vendors area. If you can't make contact with him for some reason let me know. I'm a dealer also.

Blackstone Oil will test your oil and tell you when to change it and how the engine is wearing. Your can buy a Snioer for 30 bucks and it will remove oil from car oil dip stick tube and places it right into the shipping container which is about 4 oz. That is what heavy equipment people do and truck fleets. I am sure race teams do it all the time too. I have done my heavy equipment, trucks, and race car,

Default Red Line Oil

We have been using Red Line products for the past 14 years in all our racer cars. That includes 2 Mazdas, one corvette, one Honda S2000, and 2 Nissan 350Z's. I consider Red Line as an insurance policy against bad things happening to the race car. We also use it in the differential, transmission and power steering. I don't consider the cost to be high when compared to losing the engine or other parts.

We first ran into Red Line when we were sharing a friends Mazda RX-7 in a 12 hour endurance race at Summit Point and on one of the pit stops for gas the car that had right behind us for many many laps came in just before us and it was covered with oil. Our car came in about two laps later and I thought I should check the oil while we were gassing it. The oil wasn't even on the stick so I added a quart, still not on, added another quart, but it still needed another quart and a half to bring it up. We sent the car out for another two laps while we looked for an oil cooler and new lines becasue it had to be leaking from one or both. It was one of the lines but what amazed me was that we had to have been running the car for several laps without oil. So we have used Red Line ever since that impressive inadvertant test.

Iam using the 10w40 and my car drives great. Good oil pressure and cooler temps BUT the engine LS7 drinks it like crazy. Id say , every 3-4 days of hard and high rev street driving 1/2 quart is added.
Question, would 5w50 be better??.

Rather than take a lot of opinions about what weight to use I suggest you talk to the Red Line Oil technical guys at 1.800.624.7958. I also suggest that you use their power steering fluid as it will save you a steering race. All the rack use in racing brings the oil temps up on many cars to a point of failure. We have been evacuating all the fluid we can take out of the reservoir and then refill after each race weekend. I am sure that on track days you get even more time on the track than we do at a normal SCCA race. You can also ask the tech guy if you can save a little by buying from them by the case.

I did, they were surprised the amount of oil my car consumed. The 10w40 is the right choice according to R.L.
