Default Head sock to keep new helmet clean/dry?

Anyone have a suggestion, I don't need nomex etc, just something I ca toss in the wash & doesn't look too weird.

What do you use?

my helmet came with a bag that I keep it in.

If you're worried about sweat/bacteria, I would consider soaking the padding in alcohol, perhaps. I've never been concerned with that aspect (only track a few times a year) but that's the first thing that popped in my head.

I should have been way more clear, sorry guys. This head sock goes on my head, under the helmet. So when I sweat it soaks up most of it.

I have two Sparcos head socks and use the wing to dry them when I come in. Swap for each session. Work great to keep sweat off your eyes. May as well wear something decent you only have one head that thinks! Keeps the helmet nicer too. I just wash them in the machine or sink at the hotel for two day events.

You don't want something melting or burning on your face. I had cotton pant catch fire on my leg and it is not pleasant. I have a 4x5" scar on my leg I would not want on my face. No comments from the peanut gallery they are 40 - 50 bucks

Oh, yeah, I wear a head sock too. I didn't even catch that word in the title on first read though...

Sparco has a CoolMax brand that is non-Nomex but is basically well-breathing cotton. Inexpensive too. I sweat like a pig so bought two, and alternate between sessions to let one dry.

I think they also have a cool-nomex version but those are mondo pricey.

SCCA rules require a balaclava if the driver has facial hair. I have always worn one, and if you have met me you know facial hair is not a part of my life!

I like to wear one because it makes the helmet go over my ear plugs a bit easier, and sometimes it is nice to have something between my head and the helmet comfort-wise.

I have at least two at each race weekend (same with Nomex-style socks).

I bought a SHOCK DOCTOR power dry blower and dual port attachment:
http://www.shockdoctor.com/product/p...ry-blower.aspx

After each session I'll put the helmet, shoes, gloves and let them run on the blower. It drys them out and "de-stink-afies" (technical term ) them. Its a great product that adds life to your equipment.

I have an OMP nomex head sock. I tried a carbon-x one and it had no stretch in it and would not go over my head.

I use a military "skull cap" that I used to wear under my helmet when I flew B-1s. I've got two brand new ones still in the bag. PM me your address and I'll send them to you.

I don't think its French because I'm from New York>>>>>>>>>>>So I guess I learned it from my crew chief who is from Cumming Georgia. I hate the feeling of the baclavva, and this was an alternative.

All I know is that the helmet does not stink..................and thus-lly has ben de-stink-afied. My crew chief is very wise!!!

100% COTTON OR NOMEX ONLY!

I saw a comment that someone wears Coolmax for auto racing...this is a BIG NONO! Never ever wear coolmax under your helmet or Coolmax underwear during auto racing.

Coolmax is polyester based, so if god-forbid there was a fire, that fabric will MELT TO YOUR SKIN! Spend the couple bucks extra and get some Nomex balaclavas. Buy 2-3, wash them every event, its worth it.

Coolmax is marketed in motorsports for Karting only.
