Default Toe Conversion -- Degrees to Inches

I know this has been discussed before and many have added good information -- especially David Farmer. But, the question came up on another forum and led me to create an Excel file (27kb) to covert degrees to inches while allowing for varying distances in front of and behind the wheel centerline -- because there is a difference measuring off the face of a 26" tire vs. on the edge of a 17" rim.

In cell C3 of the spreadsheet enter (in inches) the point in front of (and also behind) the wheel centerline where you place your tape measure to check toe. Use the same distance in front and behind for accuracy. If measuring off the face of a 26" diameter tire you will enter 13". If measuring using the leading and trailing edge of an 17" rim then you will enter 8.5". Adjust it for what works on your car.

deg is just the arc tangent of (toe in inches)/diameter........ Actually it is either the arc tan or the arc sin, since sin=tan at very small angles.

This reminds me of the old Barbie doll that got banned.... "this math sure is hard"

for 18", 1/32"=0.1deg that is how I measure, easy to repeat and easy to remember.

Simplest way to do it is use this chart from Smart Racing Products.

http://www.smartracingproducts.com/p...e_settings.pdf

They also have the spreadsheet on one of their links.

When using the chart it says wheel diameter but what everybody really means is the distance between your two measuring points. The distance between those two points on my toe plates is 21 inches even though I am measuring toe on a wheel that is 26.8 inches in diameter.
