GT-1 Corvettes Take Overall Wins in V8 Series
Dave Machavern and Babe Branscombe split the Sebring weekend Feb 21&22, each taking overall and class wins. On Saturday, Machavern, in his blue #26 Tommy Riggins built C6 Trans Am type machine led from the pole with Branscombe never more than a few lengths behind. Just after halfway, Branscombe succumbed to mechanical issues and Machavern was home free, finishing well ahead of the Rousch/Yates powered late model SPO stock car of Paul Breehne. Canadian Marco Cirone was third overall and second in GT-1 in his new Porsche GT3 Patron Cup car.
On Sunday, Machavern led from the pole, however Branscombe wasn't going anywhere. He was running his quickest laps ever, and around lap four got inside Mac under braking and made it stick. Branscombe never
faltered over the last few laps as Machavern chased him to the checker
a few lengths back.
Machavern's ride is a 2004 Riggins Chassis, with Derhaag type C6 TA body, powered by a Lozano Bros. SB2 chevy.
Branscombe's Vette is the ex Spirit of Daytona/Flis Motorsports
Riggins built C5 that won the Grand Am GTS Championship circa 2001.
