Default My "new" data acq system

I say new in quotes because I bought this AIM MXL Pro 05 3 years ago for the GT1 car, but now it is working in my '06 ZO6. It interrogates the OBD port and provides the following data:

SPEED
Accelerometer
Pedal position sensor
Throttle position sensor
Engine temperature
Air Temperature
Fuel Level
Used fuel
Oil pressure
Front Left wheel speed
Front Rear wheel speed
Rear left wheel speed
Rear right wheel speed
Steering angle
Yaw rate

Already I got some interesting data. I did a straight line run with it and even with wheelspin, the throttle and pedal positions were line to line. Also, the intake air temp was about 150F idling while I was programming it and when when I started driving it went down to 86F in about a minute. It was also neat to see that I shifted at 7086 RPM! With the steering angle sensor and yaw rate sensor, I will be able to quantify "turn in", and with the 4 wheel speed sensors correct brake bias will not be a matter of opinion or feel. It will be interesting as I get some time on it and I look forward to using it as a development tool.

Nice looking unit Gary. I assume it won't work with (or won't get much data from) the OBDII port on a C5 ECU?

This is cool because TC Design was already pushing me towards an AIM dash/datalogger for the RX7. The fact that I could grab'n'go for the C6 is sweet.

http://www.aimsports.com/ or search for "AIM MXL Pista" or "AIM MXL Pro" to find some pricing online. The Pista is around $2k without the GPS module. GPS is around $600 from what I saw.

'06? What about us lowly '05 C6s?

This is actually an MXL Pro 05 which you really do not need for this application. I don't think it works on an '05 C6.

I am going to install a data acq over the winter and I would be interested to hear more about the AIM. I hear very good things about it and have seen it in some Porsche Cup cars.

I just picked up an Aim Evo4 with a MyChron dash display. GPS based mapping as well as the top flight AIM software.
http://www.aim-sportline.com/pages/c...n_car_evo4.htm

It will integrate with any C6 Corvette running the stock computer.
http://www.aim-sportline.com/pages/d...m_corvette.htm

I can't wait to get it in the car!

You've got "the setup" to have. I love the MXL dashes.

I just wanted to show folks another AIM option that includes GPS mapping at a lower price point.

I don't know if there are supporting vendors who offer AIM products but www.victorylanedata.com is a HUGE resource and has the best pricing I've seen. Not affiliated in any way, just happy with my interactions with them and I haven't bought anything yet.

Memory Key and external gyroscope are on my short list though.

Chris Harrison in AZ (www.harrisonautodynamics.com) has been a huge help for me! With the yaw rate sensor, do you need the gyro?

I don't know specifically. I was looking at the suspension tuning area and the gyro was what they used for that. The gyro is simply sensing yaw rate so I would imagine that you wouldn't need it. You would just have to get the AIM to interpolate the yaw sensor data. With steering angle and all else that you have in your car, you should be able to test and get it seriously hooked up! Not that it isn't already.

Mine isn't going in a Corvette so I don't have the luxury of tapping the native vehicle sensors.

Here is a screen shot of the native sensor suite values in the AIM setup S/W:

When you do something like this with the EVO4+MyChron3 can you combine the data from both the EVO4 and the MyChron? Can you combine the 2 wheel speed sensors on the EVO4 with the 2 wheel speed sensors on the XG LOG? Or use the "other" 5 analog inputs as an expansion module? That would be a very cool way to get GPS plus a tonne of inputs for $1139+$949 which is barely more than an MXL Pista @ $1999 and less than a Pro @ $2499.

It's hard to tell from their website; it's clear the EVO4 can connect to the MyChron or SmartyCam, but just not clear if the datalogger gets all the inputs.

Glen, do you think the S/W will work on a MacBook Pro?
