that's pretty much been the standard so far.....basically if you bought an SA2000 one in 2000, you get 10 years out of it, if you bought it early 05 (or whenever the 2005 helmets came out), you only get 5 years.
Personally I continue to think it is BS, as the standards changes extremely slightly in the SA05 helmets. I think any modern helmet should be legal unless it has been in a direct impact.

Well my SA2000 is 9 years old and is looking pretty funky.
I'm debating getting an 05 on clearance or waiting for the 2010's to come out.
Right now I'm leaning for finding one on clearence this winter and replacing it in 5 years.
Up till this year I was running 5 events or less per year. This year I'll have over 10 events.
I'm a tall guy so I occasionally bounce it against the door frame going around the track

I try to time my purchases with the new Snell standards. The Snell 2010 helmets will not be available until 2011. Production always lags the Standard by one year.

It depends on the organization you are running with. I know some that are still accepting the 95 models.

I agree with the discount. I just got an SA2005 Simpson Stingray for $400, originally $800.
Dont you have a couple years more than the standard if you have a more recent manufacturer date? For instance the helmet I just got if only a SA2005 but it was made last year so I should get more than 5 years out of it right?

In NCCC it's 10 years from the manf. date. If there isn't a date, the latest two snell ratings are good. So when the 2010s come out the 2000s are no good, but the 2005s are still good.
