C4 shock recomendation
I want to replace the KYB shocks on my '87 that I autox and some DD use. I know you get what you pay for, and I didn't pay much for the KYB's. I'm thinking about koni, which I'm currently running on my CSP miata, but I don't see alot of C4's using koni, and I see alot of bilstien. I'm not ready to do the mods for coilovers.

C-4 Shocks
I have used Bilstein on my '96 for about three years now.
I would recomend calling Vansteel @ 800-418-5397 and talking with Paul.
I have the sport shock, it's pretty stiff for the street but handles autocrossing very well. There is a stiffer valving, Moraco I think, but after driving them on a friend's car would not want them for the street.
If you could get your hands on a set of stock Bilsteins, they could be rebuilt/revalved by Bilstein. That contact was 858-386-5900 a few years ago or go to www.bilstein.com/contact.
Geez, I click on attach signature every time but it doesn't seem to make it to the post!

Be carefull of the rules within the sanctioning body you will be running with. SCCA and NCCC differ on what's allowed, even in stock class autocrossing.
Be patient if you arrive at an event and get put in a class with cars that are modified because you have cut holes in the aircleaner lid or something which seems silly like that.
Every group has their own rules, don't get discouraged. Have fun!

I've ran in 4 different regions, but I know people in each region so I've done fine. This car will run in bsp, since I've done exhaust and I'm about to do the C5 brake upgrade.

I've had a whole lot of shocks on my C4. I actually liked the KYBs on the street. TPIS used to make a nice C4 shock as well. Myron got them from a retired Koni engineer.
I'm running Bilsteins now at the track. They're custom valved and work nicely.
I'm putting the Hyperco Corvette Challenge springs on my car so the shocks have to be revalved to match the much stiffer springs.
One trick is to buy some Bilsteins out of a salvage yard and then have them rebuilt to your specific purpose.

Melting Slicks
The Koni sports for the C4 are still winning at the national level and, when set to full soft are very comfortable on the street. Set the backs at full soft and adjust the fronts to suit and you are good to go.
Unless you have done headers and gotten rid of the cats, you won't be in BSP. Exhaust from the cat back is free in stock.

I had the Maracca valved Bilsteins on my autocross only car for a while. I would never want that shock on the street. Locke (above posts) has driven my car a couple of times and I agree with him. While they're pretty good on a course but a pot hole on the street would break a kidney or your teeth.
I switched to the QA-1 double adjustables recently with the Hyperco spings (package from Paul at Van Steel) and the ride doesn't seem nearly as harsh but it's still stiff in the corners. If you want to adjust the QA-1s to the firmer settings when you autocross and softer for the street that could be an option. They're not cheap though.

Ah! If you can run adjustables and can afford them; get them!
I've wanted to have them since I sold the race prepared car years ago. Too bad I'm commited to staying in the Stock class with NCCC were they are not allowed. (I know Johnny, you tried to solve that problem for me)
Now, let's try attaching that signature again.........

The QA1's are nice. Adjustable for street or autocross, or track.
I just run the single adjustable, much lower cost than the double adjustable.
about $139/ each Summit or Jegs
"Locke": Just run in NCCC group-II, adjustables are fine there!
