The bigger story out there is a merger of Grand Am and ALMS. Or, Grand Am just buys all of the Don Panoz tracks, etc.

It's gotten so bad that the ALMS had to go on the record yesterday.

"The rumors ... have been a pointless distraction and extremely unprofessional. However, rest assured that the management team of IMSA/ALMS has had our complete focus on fulfilling our 2009 season and planning for 2010 and beyond."

We all know what usually happens when people feel the need to make statements like this.

How many companies and teams are going to go bankrupt when GM doesn't honor its contracts? Lear already has.

Bigger story? Its a rumor! Just like every year, someone floats this piece of garbage. The only story, in it, is that people keep sucking up the 'Koolaid'.

Well as GM emerges from bankruptcy we have learned that Bob Lutz will be head of marketing:
Bob Lutz, a longtime GM executive who had planned on retiring, will "unretire" as Henderson said, to become head of marketing and communications for the company. Lutz will also remain in a design role at the automaker.
Here

Now while not being iron clad proof that there will be no cuts to 'Corvette Racing' Lutz is a large fan of Corvette and even uses one as a daily driver. So it seems that we have an advocate in the corner for the program!!

From reading that article, the whole concept of a Global Championship is extremely exciting to me. As a kid growing up, you would hear about the great road races around the world and the great drivers that commanded these cars on European and US continents to international championships. I think a global championship adds credibility to road racing that is desperately needed. It has the potential to battle with F1 if it is done right.

One thing it NEEDS is cross drivers from other series that are popular (get NASCAR, F1, SPorts car, Rally, Indy) to bring in other fans. Let's have Earnhart battle Danica vs. Sabastian B vs. Jenson Button vs Andretti in the same class. You would get fans from every series and intrest in sports car racing will grow, but the draw can no longer be JUST the cars as it has been in years past. Bring back the days of multi talented cross series drivers with a world championship and you will have a winner!!
