roters
hey guys, looks like I am hooked on HPDE. I am going to keep my stock z51 roters and pads for the street.looking to buy another set for track. Should I go with inexpensive roters from advance or napa or should I spend extra bucks on dba 4000 or 5000.looks like I willl be doing 6 or 8 classes this year. I have already done 3 classes changed to hawk hp plus pads, starting to get stress cracks already. going to try carboteck pads with new roters hawks are just about gone. thanks

I would recommend just staying with the cheap NAPA rotors especially if you are going to swap pads and rotors back to stock between events. IF you work out the costs, the DBA 2 piece rotors are about the cost of 4 sets of NAPAS. They will last 3 maybe 4 times as long depending on how agressively you drive and what pads you use. Brakes are consumables, it is just how much labor you are willing to expend. You will eventually get to the point that the continual swapping back and forth is a PITA and just run your track pads / rotors all the time. I ran Carbotek 12/10 combo on the street for 2 years and had no problems what so ever. Now run Wilwoods the same way. Welcome to the addiction !

I have been doing this stuff for a while. NAPA/Delco rotors can be had for about the same price. From my perspective they are equivalent Chinese products...even packaged the same. Carbotech XP12/XP10 is a wonderful track combination. I never bothered to take them off for my limited street use.

C6 Z51 is a bigger rotor. C6 Z06 is an even bigger rotor.
To run the C5 NAPA rotors on a C6 Z51 you need to order the C6 base model caliper brackets (abutements).

You can run the C6 Z51 "size" rotors on C5's but need the C6 Z51 brackets, calipers are fine. The brackets are available through Gene Culley or your favorite GM parts house. When I replace rotors next I will upgrade to the larger Z51 rotors. Not sure of the brake performance gain but I figure it will be marginally better than stock C5 size with brake torque and heat dissipation.

[Insert usual disagreements about cross-drilled rotors vs solid vs slotted. Insert discussion on holes being stress risers.]
Choose carefully, NemesisC5. :-)

Thanks for the "heads up", I should have stated things clearly. I plan on trying the DBA 4000 series slotted (only) rotors mentioned above for C6 Z51 size @ $140/ea. I had my required bad experience with drilled rotors that came on the car when I purchased it. I also had my experience with the "china" Napa blanks, never again.

Interesting. The plain jane C5 rotors are $45 tops (not chinese). Other cost (one time) is new caliper brackets, and your consumable cost just went WAY down. Your call though, and good luck with the DEs!

hey everybody thanks for all your advice. I ordered roters today from advance auto. They
sell two sizes for the c6 coupe regular and heavy duty. the heavy duty are a larger roter
so I hope this is the same size as my z51 roters. I will keep you all informed on the size
and where the are made. Ben

The NAPA Chineese rotors are not the equal of the Canadian ones they used ot sell, but are not that bad. I get about 6 track days out of a set of fronts and about 10 out of a set of rears before they are checkered so badly that I do not trust them. Proper cool down after a session is VERY important to keep them from cracking. One lap on track after checkerd flag and a couple of times around the pits before parking car. Cooling ducts are a MUST to get any life from them at all.

My front china Napas lasted 6 sessions. PF-01's with LG/DRM ducts and 1 cool down lap. Maybe could have lasted longer,,,,,but time for me to try something I think is better then evaluate from there. One thing I've learned in life is sometimes you have to pay more to save money.
