Default Hillclimbs anyone?

Last weekend I ran in the Pagoda Hillclimb with my 85 Corvette. It is a 1 mile course and since it is very tight, It is more suitable to shorter wheelbase sportscars. But I had a ball competing with the Brits.
Do any of you run in SCCA hillclimbs? If so, where do you run and what do you run. In our area we have the Giants Despair, Pagoda, Duryea, Polish Hillclimb, Weatherly and up until last year the Hershey Hillclimb.

I have not yet however, I've always wanted to check out the Pagoda hill climb as my parents live about 20 minutes away. Do you have any pictures or links to pictures from the event?

I have a friend who attends the hill climb in Wilkes Barre every year, but I am not sure of the date. Sounds like fun.

I've never done one, but I went to the Goodwood festival last year, it was a blast just to watch!

There are no 2009 videos posted on utube yet although there are lots from previous years. I had a problem with my in car camera, so I did not get any videos. I expect to see some great shots on the BMRSCCA website soon as well as utube.

I would LOVE to do hill climbs, especially Polish Mountain near Cumberland, but I don't have a cage in either of my cars.

I've been to a couple, though I've never driven one.

A gage, and large cahones are definitely required!

Back when I lived in PA I ran the hillclimb series. Looking back it was the most fun I ever had. I ran a Mini Cooper and then did a few in an RX7.

Is Terry Hitt still running? He was incredible with his old C3 Corvette. I think he still has his tube frame C5.

Kerry isn't running anymore, but he was awsome in his day. I think that he ran a L88 powered 67. Many of the racers that ran back in the 60s kept their cars and are now back running them and having a ball. It is about the most heart pumping 60 seconds that I can imagine in a race car.

www.pahillclimb.org

Retired from racing, but, we ran several of the PA hillclimbs over the years. We won Giants Despair in 2004, with a GT1 Camaro. My favorite hill, because of the fans/friends up there. Very, very lively crowd at devils elbow. We ran an old red/white/blue GT1 corvette there several times.

Pagoda/Duryea are very fast as well (Duryea is probably the fastest).

Awesome group of racers in the PHA gang. I miss racing with those guys/gals. We drank many a Yeungling Lager in Wilkes-Barre!

There are 3 active hillclimbs in the south...
Eagles Nest Hillclimb Banner Elk NC (August 1,2) coming soon
Wolf Ridge Hillclimb NC
Crows Nest Hillclimb Scottsboro Al

I just registered for the Duryea event. This will be my first hill climb in my car, I was able to bum a car (neon) last weekend at the Polish hill event I even came in 2nd out of 4. I just got the rollbar installed today so I'm ready to go for this weekend. One thing I'm sure of mine will definitely be the ugliest Corvette there. I'm in the middle of painting it so it's half striped and half sanded and about 5 different colors.

Nice paint doesn't make it faster. LOL Duryea is the best hill of the series. Lots of technical low speed stuff mixed with some great high speed sections. Here is one of my in car videos http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoID=44153039 from a few years ago. What tires are you going to run ?

I'll be running my 2 year old kumho v710. I'm use to having the car laughed at, until it runs that is. It's funny how many people come over to me at the end of events and say I never would have thought your car was an FTD car. Not that I'm even thinking of trying for a record at hill climbs I've been around long enough to know you need to have your head on straight at any high speed events. I would rather come in last and have a car to take home than ball it up in a corner.

Bill 3
The Polish Mountain Hillclimb was a blast. After I got comfortable with the hill, I was able to work my way up from my beginning 73 Seconds to a 66 second run on Sunday. I think that I can improve by a second or 2 next year. My son posted several of my runs on Youtube. Don,t pay any attention to the audio on the 3rd run. I think that it was his attempt at humor.
I will have the 85 at Summit Point next Tuesday with the Carlisle productions/Cumberland Valley CC group. I assume that you and Lance will be there!

Regards, Dave

I had a blast at Duryea the high speed sections are scary as hell going 100+ with stone walls with in inches of both sides of the road is intimidating. Bill I saw your car but never got a chance to say hello I'm sure you saw mine down by the start you can't miss my car. I under stand you guys were doing 130+ at the finish, "can you say big ball" I never got above 118. I lucked out and ran a 125.5 for my last run that gave me the win in SSM over some very good drivers. Did you get the T1 record you were looking for?
Dave

PS
Any of you guys that are thinking about doing a hillclimb you really need to try it it's a blast.
