Where are local autocross events?
I want to try out autocrossing. I attended my first HPDE course at VIR a few weeks ago and got hooked, but the track cost, trailering your car 3 hours, and hotel/meal expenses will limit my ability to go to more than a few events per year. Is there a web site that lists autocross events in your local area? I heard they are alot of fun, inexpensive, and don't take a whole weekend. I also heard that track guys make good autocrossers, but good autocrossers make terrible track guys. Any truth to this, or did I just start up something?

I'm sure someone will chime in with some websites for your local area, unless you want to commute over to the DFW area.
I've never heard your web-ism about DE'ers vs autox'ers, but I will say that you'll have your car farther out on the edge at an autox, just because 1.) you're competing against the clock and 2.) you're running slower with much less risk to your car. As a result, you'll get a lot more experience with pushing your car over the edge and pulling it back, or pushing the edge too far and suffering the consequences, which almost always consists of a bruised cone and ego.
Here's a couple of autocross videos from a few of our locations, just to whet your appetite:
A slow one:

A faster one:

Have a good one,

Melting Slicks
come on out and sample a few of the local events - there are a few to choose from within a decent drive - both SCCA and NCCC (corvette only)
although summer is often a slower time b/c of the extreme heat... check it out
