Not Katech, which I assume you already know. It has to be somebody pretty substantial since they are doing the custom sizing to get things going the next few years.

Yep, I'd heard Katech wasn't going to be the supplier so I was wondering who could be as dependable and substantial since there's a lot riding on the new engine.

I get the feeling that GM is going to do it themselves. Nothing to back that up, just my guess

during the LeMans coverage, I think I heard them say that LeMans would be the last Katech engines GM would be using. They didn't mention the GT2 supplier.

Power allowances are pretty low in GT2, but they obviously want to extract as much as they can through any restrictors IMSA throws at them.

I think they are doing them "in house" now. Kinda funny, Katech did a good job with the program. It's kinda fun how the powers to be can forget about that and start over from scratch. But hopefully with more work done in house the technolgies and the time to the production will be shorter.

it's been previously reported that the GT2 will initially use a 6.0L LS7R for the reminder of 2009, then a new 5.5L engine for 2010 on. I've seen at least one report that it will be LS3 based, but nothing official

Cost reduction. Wixom will be building the motor.

What's a Wixom? A division of GM or another company entirely?

A Katech World Challenge engine is still less than HALF of a Porsche race engine.......cost reduction doesn't do much good if you aren't competitive.

The Performance Build Center:

That's where they assemble the Z06 engines.

The Performance Build Center in Wixom is only around 5 miles from Pratt and Miller in New Hudson, MI.

When they had their new GT2 car out at Sebring a few weeks ago (I was there for a NARRA event and saw them setting up to practice on Monday) there was still a Katech sticker on the trailer. Maybe they forgot to pull it off?

I heard that too during the Le Mans telecast. I hope that the new engine does well.
