I came up short by 0.165 for a win today running a set of A6's with 40 runs on them, so they were past their prime according to a couple of pro's I spoke with.

Rears were sticking ok but fronts were lacking grip. In the garage I have two new front 710's ready to go but no rear 710's.

Should I have mixed the best fronts & rears (not on the same axle of course, talking 710 f and a6 r)?

Don't do it.

Too much variability in the driving most likely to attribute the loss to the tires. Just think if you did one thing slighty better you would have won.

Doubtful even the best of us drive perfect----ever.

You might want to flip the tires on the wheels for a "fresh edge"----

You'll get them next time.

I ran V710's on the front and old R6's on the rear this weekend at Road Atlanta and it felt really good even though others told me not to do it.

Thanks guys, I had already flipped them & yes, of course there was a part of course where I pushed & if I backed off a bit I might have gained the time needed.

But I am not asking so much about one specific run. More in general, I (as most I suspect) wear out fronts first.

Since I run two brands (at this time) I seem to always end up with new fronts & a bunch of rears that are too good to toss, but past the prime life.


I may give the mismatch a try at next event.

BTW this was a low grip (San Diego W Lot) venue.

I've run mixed for track days.
Switch to a square setup so you can move tires around easier.

I've run them both a found that they each came into their heat element at different times. IE: Run 1 you may over steer, run 5 Understeer. And they both like different tire pressure.

Yes the heat in the tires would come on somewhat different. I probably could manage the pressures ok. I run about 1.5 psi more in the a6's both ends. Wear is pretty even both brands (after the flipping).
