Default F1 going the way of CART/INDY split?

Sounds like there may be a split if money caps come in. F1 wants to cap money to 70 million per year from over 400 for some top teams. Next week will be the test as Bernie may let in new teams and boot the big ones if they don't bend.

Well if Bernie follows through with his threat and brings suit against Ferrari, he better never travel to Italy again

going from what, 500mill to 70 mill? ya, thats not a huge change or anything. I liked the way it was said in the race today, a "draconian budget cut"

I wish F1 would do a NASCAR type "all star event" during the season. No points race. Just a run whacha brung event. No (or very few) technical rules, anything goes. Would be fun

Speaking of cutting costs

Teams agree to scrap Kers system
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/moto...ne/8088272.stm

"The Formula One Teams' Association has agreed to abandon the energy storage and recovery system (Kers) for the 2010 season, BBC Sport understands.

"The optional Kinetic Energy Recovery System can give cars a power boost, but only Ferrari and McLaren are now still using it seven races into the season.

"Fota will drop it because of its poor uptake - and pressure from motorsport's governing body, the FIA, to cut costs. "

A couple of observations.

First, (technically) Bernie doesn't decide which teams are/aren't in the series. That's FIA's domain (that's not to say that he and Max Mosley aren't tag-teaming things.)

Second, (re: KERS) this is not for FOTA to decide, either. The technical rules for F1 cars are defined by the FIA. Personally, I think the KERS stuff is lame and should never have been brought up (another Mosley thing.)

Third, Ferrari holds some serious cards in this game. Bernie might sue them but that wouldn't begin to repay him (or CVC Partners) for the huge, lingering damage done to F1 by the loss of Ferrari cars on the F1 tracks. The number of F1 fans *around the globe* who tune in to see Ferrari race and win (many/most of whom would tune out if Ferrari were gone) is a very large percentage of the total. Mess with that at yoour peril, Max & Bernie.

On a like note is this... (be aware that Bernie Ecclestone is the promoter of the race in Turkey as you read it.)

As an aside, did anyone happen to watch the season ending Law & Order (original) last week? The opening setup was of a big-wig business guy who would "disappear" for an evening every other week to be treated badly by a group of dominatixes. "It was his thing; he needed it" said his wife. My wife and I were laughing out loud at the Mosley connection! It was *so* obvious where the story concept came from!

How many jobs and facilities would be closed on a team going from 400-70 million?
