Default What regulations have you been asked to prove after a race that surprised you?

I ran two races this weekend with SCCA at Road America in my T1 car.

Saturday was a real hoot going out in the rain for qualifying. I had a double tank slapper in T8 just before the carousel and somehow saved both slides.

I had a good race Sunday and went to impound after checkered. After weigh in (I still have my passenger seat in so I'm plenty heavy. )

I was asked to prove I was wearing socks on both feet.

How 'bout you guys?

There must have been a safety memo about checking socks.

I'd like to say that was a joke, but I'm serious!

The same question was asked of me at a NASA @ Road America this spring.

I once "loaned" a spare set of Nomex socks to a fellow competitor who didn't have a set because he didn't know about the rule. I now bring three sets with me just in case (only wear one at a time, thought).

Mike
I did a National at CMP a couple of years ago where they checked for "nomex" socks. Out of our group of 40 cars...3 people had Nomex socks. The SOM was so pissed off that he threatened to disallow the times of 37 cars. Needless to say...we all had nomex at the second qualifier and Tim from Safequip was a happy camper.

This weekend at the Road Atlanta National, they were checking wings which need to be 72" or less. The inspector and my crew chief got in a pissing contest becasue he said that the screws that hold in the end plates need to be included.....and that added 1/16"...which would have made me over.
Luckily sanity prevailed!

They checked for Nomex socks at an SCCA race at VIR last year. Had to return with a pair and show them to the tech inspector to prove I had them. "Here, smell these so you'll know I have worn them!" does not go over well.

[off-topic, sorry]

I said that about my hockey gear bag to a US customs agent when I was coming to visit my then girlfriend, now wife, in California. I was planning on skating a couple of hockey games with friends. Due to the size of the bag the customs agent deemed that I had no intention of returning to Canada -- "What's in the bag!?" "My hockey gear, want to smell it?"

Anyway, they turned me back at the airport, I went back the next day _without_ my hockey gear and breezed right through. Go figure.

In the NER they have asked three times in the last year. I used to not wear them but now wear them all the time just cause I don't want the hassle!!! Don't forget to have you SCCA patch on the front!!

Give him a break, Jody. Tough, though, thought, through, thorough, throughout. It's hard to tell them apart...

Perhaps attach a little elastic band around them so they can wear them like surgical masks.

How about being told you are using illegal fuel, too much oxygen. It was bought at the track, and whatever residual gas was Mobil 93 octane from a local store.

My last event they asked me if I had the safety pin in my fire extinguisher. (He thought I had a full fire suppression system)

$50 fine if you forget to remove the pin in a full system.

Do tech inspectors get fined if their pens are not lined up from tallest to shortest in their shirt pocket?

Do tech inspectors have to use Nomex thread to sew on their patches?

I don't think any T1 guys would want me around them as a Tech Inspector. Every T1 car I have ever seen could be DQ'ed for something!

What's funny is you'd think after I pulled up my suit leg to reveal a sock on my right foot you'd assume I'm wearing a left one too.

I'm sure they catch a lot of people wearing only one sock.

We need a top ten list of Tech inspector requirements:

1) Sense of humor prohibited
2)
