Default Tips for Autobahn South?

I'm heading to Autobahn south track on Sunday with my C5Z. Running street tires in the morning then Hoosiers in the afternoon. Trackpedia doesn't have any of the usual turn by turn tips. Anyone have any notes of the track?

Also, anyone have any suggestions of good online video of the track to watch?

Find Short-throw and get the play by play.

Thanks Randy and Tom,

Great paging system!

autoxer6,

Here's a video I made with our track manager earlier in the year while driving my CTS-V at slow speed. I am working on a more professional video for driver orientation at the club, but this will certainly help.

As far as notes, I can share a lot more with you than you'll ever read in any notes. PM me a contact number and I'll be happy to share more local knowledge about the track that will help you shave time and more importantly, be safe!

Do you have any videos with farm equipment being passed on the track?

All kidding aside, I'm thinking we should have a battle of the 14 wheelers at this year's Grand Prix!

That was really a great video. I think I will have to sign up for the NASA event in July now, or maybe the MVP event in August.
Thanks

Frank,

MDC and a few other items (like where slick parts of the track are located) are tips I will add in the next version.

Does anyone know what good lap times are for a stock C5Z? My best lap was a 1:39. My car is on pilot sport street tires with koni shocks, and a 32 mm sway bar. (Standard SS autocross setup)

Tires and shocks will certainly help best pure stock C5 Z06 times by a second or two.

1:39 is actually a decent time for a stock C5 and a driver who hasn't seen the track much. An accomplished driver with pilots and shocks can run 1:35-36 with everything else stock.

A stock C6 Z06 can run 1:34.xx bone stock as EMT's are the limiting factor. With R6's it can run 1:32.xx

The Beast has run 1:23 with Pilgrim at the wheel.

My best is 1:25. I see Armco when I drive, Pilgrim has no idea what it even looks like!

Glad you had fun!

MDC is Million Dollar Corner. Turn 3 on South is the left handed off camber danger zone. It has collected more cars than any other location on both tracks.

When we first opened, it collected a 430, a Porsche GT. GT2 and a few others. There was a million dollar carnage total in a very short time, hence the nick name MDC.

It still carries that 'unofficial' label even though the damages are probably skywards of 20 million now.

In my updated video to come, I will discuss in more detail how to take this turn and make it more simple. If you set up for turn 2 properly, turn 3 is actually no big deal. You need to apply steady throttle and most people lift or turn in too tight causing a tank slapper. Those that don't are either very good, or don't know how perilous it can be.
