C5Z Wheel/Brake Clearance
Posted this (more related to weight) a few weeks back as I'm always fiddling with stuff.

While the weight is part of some of the difference between the Alcoa's and Speedlines, tonight I checked another hunch I have had eyeballing both wheels over the last couple of years. Two of the differences between the Alcoa and Speedline are spoke shape (more rounded on the speedline) and paint color (darker for alcoa).
The rounded spokes for the speedlines always looked fatter to me, and I always wondered about clearance with big brake kits for such so tonight I measured my alcoa's and speedlines on a 14" 6 pot Stoptech kit that is on a C5 currently in my shop.
In this case of this kit, Stoptech says .080" is min clearance for wheel spoke to caliper.
Here's .085" of clearance on the 02-04 Speedline
And .170" of clearance on the 01 Alcoa w/ it's thinner spokes
Both meet the (Stoptech) spec, but just for more useless, random info, the Alcoa is almost .100" more of spoke clearance.

Hey, pretty cool, I knew the SPEEDLINES fit over the ST60s, and I referred to the gap as a gnats hair, now I know that a gnats hair is precisely .085".
Interesting that the Alcoa has more room though, never realized that.
Thanks for the post.

How far from the rotor face/friction surface does the Stoptech stick out? My Wilwood SL6Rs are 2 7/8" from the rotor face... these are the full full width calipers, not the LGM SL6 that uses the 7420 pad but is slightly narrower, and not the Wilwood kit caliper that uses a 7416 pad.

Both meet the (Stoptech) spec, (and it's unlikely there is a wider caliper than the 6 pot stoptech?) but just for more useless, random info, the Alcoa is almost .100" more of spoke clearance.

I should have asked this another way... what's the distance from the rotor face to the wheel spokes? And do you know for sure the 2pc rotor you have on is the same offset as stock rotors?

So what you really want is the distance from the spokes to the outside face of rotor (ie, a stock or stock offset rotor)?

and I've stated for 7 years that they also clear ST40's with no problem. I CAN however state that they will NOT clear PFC's new kit. I have to both run 1/8" spacers AND had to clearance the calipers (with permission from PFC)

Yeah. Exactly. Trying to double check if my full width Wilwoods will fit. The Wilwood website says 2.35in so I'm looking for about 2.5" of room from the stock rotor face to the wheel spokes.

The full body SL6 requires 2.35" but I think if you check with Anthony you'll find the G-stop caliper kit uses the narrow outer body model (for Wide Five apps) and is only 2.13" from the friction surface. That might help you a bit with clearance needs.

Yeah. Unfortunately I have G-Stop brackets, but the full width SL6R calipers. Do you know if the only difference is that outside lip being machined off?
