I find that I have to wipe up brake fluid off of the area around the master cylinder resevoir after every session. I do not over fill my m/c and I put on a new cap, but it still sprays some fluid out of the fill cap.

Are there any tricks to tighten down the cap? I have heard of people rubber banding a rag around the cap, but to me that is a fire risk.

Thoughts or solutions?

Only fill the MC 1/2 way beteen the center seam and the FULL line.

Do not fill to the FULL line.

Hot brake fluid expands

also zip tie a small rag around the MC cap to absorb any spilled brake fluid

The MC cap is vented, so you need to make sure the fluid level is down towards mid-level.

yep, I do that and it still spays. I will try the ziptie and rag approach.

buy a new cap, it shouldn't leak if you aren't overfilling

I did that too and it didn't leak for a few track days, but now it is leaking again. Maybe I need to buy a few new gaskets and change them out a couple times a year.

Are you sure it's not spraying out of the back of the M/C? That'd be bad seals in the M/C for my year.

I think this falls into they all (or most) do. Mine does. I just wipe it.

My p/s cap does the same.

I took a Mobil 1 quart bottle and cut the front off. Cut a piece the shape of the m/c cap out of the platic from the bottle. It must just fit inside the cap. Place it between the cap and gasket. It works like a shim. It isn't overly tight but provides an little more force on the cap.

Try it, it just might work for you.

I installed a second gasket on the cap made from gasket sheet for a tight fit.
I recommend proper brake fluid level.

I'm having a similar issue on my '75. I like your suggestion.
I cut out an oil jug into a gasket, put it in, and the cap feels tighter already. I'll know if it works after my next drive. Fingers crossed.
