Is the "Blend-Line" really that important?

The yellow was waving before the cars rounded the corner, but still!

You never cross blend line, Safety cars fault IMO

I watched the same thing happen on the interstate this weekend. It was the pace car's fault. But were those the leaders, that he was trying to get out in front of. If you watch the other parts of the race, you can see it's a hard race to finish, let alone do well at. I'm sure the drivers were put to the test.

I didn't see the race, but unless the full course caution came out VERY late, the leaders should have known the pace car was coming out.
It looks like they were going full race speed, so without knowing the details, it's hard to place blame based on that clip.
Too bad SPEED hasn't covered this series in a few years..............

Didn't any of you guys see Days of Thunder???
I want you to go out there and hit the pace car, you've hit everything else out there and I want you to be perfect. HA HA

If a FCY is called and the safety car deployed, shouldn't the flag stands be showing a "double yellow" instead of the single yellow flags shown in the clip?

If you watch the entire first lap, above, they were clearly already showing full course waving yellows at all flag stations, and the leaders should have been going slower. That doesn't excuse the officials from deploying the safety car in such a reckless manner, but I don't blame the pace driver entirely

I suppose one could argue there is contributory negligence on the racers who were still at speed, and the okay from race control as well to release the safety vehicle, but......the safety vehicle didn't even drive a line that would merge with traffic flow at any speed. Merging further down the track seems the only sensible path at any speed. Watch closely, it's as if the safety vehicle darts out perpendicular to the track, almost exaggerates it on purpose. Freeze the video when it immediately turns to 9 seconds. The safety vehicle wasn't more than 10-15 feet out from the blind the wall when it darted in. Regardless of the race car speeds, this would have been a non event had the safety vehicle stayed track right.

Street course so visability is probably minimal there.. and even when a FCY is out, we (drivers) are encouraged to go around at "almost" race speed to catch the pace car so as to bunch the field faster.
But.. even if the cars were racing and passing each other on track during the yellow, there is a reason why the blend line is there, and you must chose to enter the track as safely as you can - meaning you assume cars are at speed. It's sort of like being the passing car, the responsibility is yours.
Because of that, fault lies with the safety car driver. period.
