Default Hardbar seat rails install question

For those of you using the Hardbar seat rails in a C6 (driver side): how did you solve the problem of the carpet and padding being too thick? Even with the stud extenders, the rails can't lay flat and be bolted on very well, especially on the outboard side, where the wire harness is.

One option is to cut the carpet and padding front to back between the studs. Another option is to use several thick washers on top of each other.

How did you do it? Do you have any photos?

Thanks!
