Default Corvette GT1 - track day car pics

Ok guys .

Here are some <koff - koff > spy pictures of the new Corvette GT1 track day car. I looked for that thread with the specs but could not find it.

The official model name is "Corvette GT1"

These will be publicly displayed next week at Sebring.

They look pretty nice, but sadly the GT1 moniker is going invoke much gaffaws and laughter from many quarters.

When folks pretent Car X or Y as a GT3 or GT2 or GT1 model, they think of the very specificly tuned and packaged Porsche GT3, GT1 and GT1 911's. Granted there hasn't been a GT1 since the last 996 one rolled off the line and changed hands for almost a million bucks, but still... isnt having its official name be "GT1" setting us up for trackside jokes?

i have to say... I like the package overall... Kinda think that they could;ve made the flat black on the black and the ghost yellow treatment on the yellow, but I still like it.

Love the "jake" on the seats too.

other than the seats, and maybe the rear spoiler.......that is ugly! I'd rather slap on some custom vinyl for my track days, and peel them off when I hit the street. I don't want the kind of attention those hood graphics are going to bring........

so.....what do you get besides stickers and fancy leather seats? Where is the cage, race seat, big brakes, good suspension (T-1 at least, that's made by GM), larger oil-coolers, trans/diff coolers, better brake cooling, factory accusump or drysump. why is there carpet, ditch the a/c, radio, and chrome tires. And now that Jake is on every other corvette you see, it's got to come off my car.

Come of GM, give us a real track-rat.

This is really sad. But, people will buy them and never know what a real GT-1 car is. How is it that Porsche can sell GT3s and GT3RSRs and the best we can do is a tape and decal job?

Last year Porsche sold 265 turn-key race cars. Porsche racing actually turns a profit. GM on the other hand ships a ton of money over to Pratt and Miller. Then they (GM in conjunction with Pratt and Miller) try to keep Lou G. from racing his Corvette in the ALMS.

Is it any wonder that the da*n company is broke.

This past summer at VIR I asked what I wanted in a corvette? Loaded questions of course.

My response was:

1. Steel frame - to weld a roll cage too
2. Z06 body - light weight and the fender flairs
3. LS2 motor with dry sump
4. big radiator, oil cooler, transmission cooler, diff cooler
5. BIG brakes, ( Stoptech or APRacing 6 pot / 4 pot) but not the Z06 brakes or at least the Brembo 4 pots off the CTS-v
6. T1 suspension
7. the ZR1 transmission ( GM Motorsports close ratio gearing) with a 3.42 diff
8. Minimal interior - manual seats to keep wt down, holes in the back of the seats.
9. A/C & radio delete or at least the minimum, but keep the HUD.
10 Manual door locks. no magnetic locks
11. Gray or black wheels
12. paint them all work truck white

everything could come out of current production lines.

My thought was this would be a great base car for ppl to adapt as they needed to any race series, or just drive.

See now that would be great...instead of museam delivery, they could have "phoenix performance delivery" to get the cage put in! LOL

that would have been nice. IMHO GM missed the boat with what they gave us.

Not to beat the horse even more but...

THAT is a GT-1?!?!?!?!?!?! Not a bad looking sticker package, but to call it a GT(anything) is just plain stupid.

Well history may be repeating itself.....

Here come the vinyl racing stripes and fake hood scoops

C5 Z06 was probably the closest thing IMHO , it just needed the LS7.

downright embarrassing compared to what comes to mind when you think of a Porsche GT2 or GT3.

I guess current economic times prevent anything radical but hopefully someday we'll see a "real" version of the C6.R
