Default C5 Z06 Track Wheels/Tires

I need advice. I am searching for track wheels for my car. The question is do you go with 18's all around or 17's all around? Iam also putting my first set of R compunds. What tire combination with the wheels would you get?

My idea is to go with 18's all around and put on R6 Hoosier. Is that the best way to go?

If $$ is a consideration 17" wheels and tires are less expensive. The Kumho V710 is an excellent tire and the 315x17 are $76 ($304/set) less than the 315x18 at Tire Rack. The price of the Hoosiers is comparable to the 18" Kumhos.

If you plan on big brakes, then 18s. There is nothing wrong with 17s (also cheaper tires).

Prices on new 17" rubber are indeed less, but the availability(and variety) of very fast 18" scrubs(R compound and slicks) at 1/4 the price of new rubber is much better than 17" tires. I recently switched from 17" to 18" wheels for this very reason.

will a 315X40X17 fit on a stock Z06 17" wheel?

Plus you will probably want bigger brakes soon and that will mandate
18" wheels. Do it right the first time and get the 18" wheels plus you will also eventually want a faster tire and in 17" there is not much. Did I mention I can sell you all the 18" tires you need!

I was looking at Hoosiers and Nittos but Discount Tire has the NITTO 555RII on sale right now. 275/17s for the front at $179 each! and 305/18 for the rear less than $300 each. I got two full sets for ~ $1800, when at set of Hoosiers was $1300 and Kumhos about $1250.

I think you'll hear good things about the Hoosiers and Kumhos and I was going to buy the Hoosiers, until I found the Nittos on sale.

I ran the Nittos last year and was hanging fine with guys with Kumhos, but I think the Hoosiers are a little faster. I got about 11 track days on the Nittos and they still have some tread left, but I wanted to put new tires on for VIR later this month.

I don't want to speak for Todd, but I believe he has Rolex GrandAm Pirelli slicks, I don't know how they compare to a 555RII speed wisebut for $1800 you would probably get enough tires to run 6 Corvettes!

Go with 18s...better tire choices and the option to upgrade to bigger brakes if needed. I thinking of selling my set of C5 Z06 18s if you are interested.
