Default Kumho V710s

A friend of mine wants me to go to the dragstrip with him this weekend. The only rear tires I have available right now are a pretty worn set of V710s. Will these be okay at the dragstrip, or are the sidewalls too stiff?

They will be fine for screwing around, just drop the pressures down a little and heat em up in the box. By no means will they be as quick as a drag radial so don't expect major hook up.

That's a good question. What would be a good air pressure to run if I thought about going to the strip sometime with my now slick V710's? Hell there's a nationals hosting drag strip half an hour from me.

Scott,
I ran my T1 car in the drags on 710's and dropped them to 18 lbs and was able to pull off a 12:50 @ 113 MPH.

I was just doing it for fun and really wasn't launching hard, cause I didn't fell like replacing a clutch.

When I first bought the car I took it to the strip and made 3 passes. The best I ran was 12.69 at 112.23mph on the stock tires (2.007 60'). I know nothing about drag racing, but I wonder how much time I could shave by going with the sticky RR tires. It's gotta be worth something even if they're completely used up. Right?

The problem is that they're not that sticky until they get some heat into them. Anyone have a guess as to how hot you can get them in a burnout box? I'd go do some hot laps to warm them up, then do the run

I have a 84 track car with 335's 710's. The problem at the drags is the tires don't get hot and sticky by doing a burnout, (and it is a waste of an expensive tire), they need laps to get sticky. My 383 540 hp auto car ran low 12s with a very light launch on the 710's. Very easy to blow them off. I put a set of 275 et street drag radials on and hooked hard and ran 11:40 @ 120 over and over. I would agree with running your stockers and save the 710's for track time.

I did this once also. The 710's picked up track rubber really bad and actually got slower and slower (even with a pretty good burnout). On my last pass or 2, I couldn't go full throttle in 1st at all. Went back a month or so later on my street tires and actually went quite a bit faster. This is a stock '03 Z.
