Best Clutch for 500 rwtq?
I lost the clutch at Firebird East this week-end. These are on my list so far.
Excedy $2400+
Spec 3 $450+
Macleod $800+
I know Danny Popp swears by the Spec 3, but is it cheap for a reason? I find it hard to believe the Excedy is 5 times better. Is there some legitimate evidence that makes one better than the other. Most of what I've found is just hype. Any substantive opinions?
BTW, it is a time trials/racecar and I drive aggressively to say the least!
Cheers,

I really like the Spec Twin though would be overkill for stock power.
SPEC - SC 09PT Twin Disc Clutch
SPEC Super Twin Clutch Kit - Carbon Graphite Disk 1395 TQ Rating Corvette C5.
SPEC Clutches Super Twin is a clutch designed for street and track use in cars with big horsepower and torque at the rear wheels.
Until recently there has been a drivability, maintenance and longevity trade-off with clutches built to handle 700-1500 ft lbs tq. The revolutionary new SPEC Super Twin has set a new standard offering near-stock drivability, tremendous life expectancy, a no shimming/setup bolt-in installation and maintenance free operation.
* Billet construction these units are smooth and quiet.
* Constructed from aircraft grade aluminum
* High carbon billet steel milled to an industry leading .001 inch for perfect balance and actuation
* Dampened, full-faced carbon graphite discs provide friction
* Organic or full metallic options are available
Torque capacities upwards of 1500 can be realized depending on disc options.
Flywheel and track-spec hardware are included in each kit.
All units include: flywheel, high strength bolts and bearings. Installation is bolt-in with no shimming or setup required.

Melting Slicks
I use SPEC 3 aluminum/aluminum (flywheel and pressure plate) , and it has not failed me yet . I routinely knock the snot out of them and abuse them every way possible.....Never have had any of the failures that I have heard about on this forum. The assy is 22 lbs. lighter than a stock clutch/flywheel assy and the cost is $1050~ish, so not quite the $450 that was quoted. My roadrace car makes 500~ish rwtq and more than that HP, So it ought to fit your application....
The Exedy weighs more than the SPEC, not sure about the McLeod or RPS.....

That is still a lot better value than the Excedy. I wonder if the problems mentioned were caused by install errors versus product failure?
I will PM you if I want to talk further.
