2 piece vs 1 piece rear main seal pans
What a quick way of telling whether a pan's for a 1 piece or a 2 piece rear main seal?
A friend of mine has a old dry sump pan and I want to see if it will fit.

it's been a long time, but as I remember, the 2-piece seals have a deep groove in them like shown here
I think the single seal has a smoother outside, and it slides in from the rear. I can't find a photo, but I think you should be able to tell by how the pan is grooved (or not)

basically as I said, I think it would have the groove that slips into the seal for the 2 piece model, and that same area would be smooth in the 1-piece style.
I found this via google, certainly you can find a GM 1-pices seal photo online for comparison.
Or I could be completely wrong!

here's a single rear....the seal is actually inside of this housing, and so the pan actually seals to the house, NOT the seal itself. Therefor, the pan opening would be larger, and not have the lip that inserts into the seal.
