Default Torn Piston dust boot question

I was switching to my street pads after running a couple hpde's and noticed my dust boot on my pistin was ripped. Does this happen on C6's alot. Should I replace right away or is it not a big issue.

I think you'll survive... that was my first event with the C6, PFC 01 pads, stock tires, way too much braking due to way too little faith in the tires.

I usually just take them off.....they usually won't last a single day at the track. The inner seals should still hold up for at least a season, usually more.

What are the observable symptoms when the inner seals start to fail?

Thanks.

The inner seal is the caliper piston seal so it can result in total hydraulic failure. It is a square seal seated in the bore and very durable, I have never seen a problem with this seal on mine; you can pop the pistons out and check it or replace it; I use a toothpick to remove them. The only brake failure I have ever had on these PBR's(twice) is when the caliper spread to such an extent that the piston exceeded its design travel and the caliper seal was breached. I wouldn't worry about this seal.

Forget about the dost boot seals, they will only burn off again. When you change pads and push the pistons back in the bores, make sure that they are clean. Use a can of brake-klene spray and wash the grit and brake dust off them. I get about 2 seasons on stock calipers before they are spread so bad that pad taper becomes a problem. Seals gone after first event, never had a leaker.
