Default [Other Cars] GM to sell Heritage cars

A link to a disheartening, but inevitable announcement. There is a
preliminary list with several cars that will be recognized. Apparently
there will be more to follow
As reported
GM sells heritage fleet
Will Powell (2008.12.18)

Lots of Corvettes on the block including 1993 and 2009 ZR-1 combos.

Wonder what GM negotiated to pay Barrett-Jackson as a seller's fee.

Russo and Steele Jan 09 Auction in Scottsdale has a reserve on vehicles.

Has B-J implemented a reserve again. Several vehicles went for a song at the last auction. I would not have been happy if those were my vehicles going under the hammer at those highly reducted prices. Somebody got some great deals.

Still to me it is a stupid publicity stunt, kinda like all of them driving hybrids to Congress. The money they raise will be a drop in the bucket and selling some history to collectors many of whom want them only for the $$value and/or will put them away where the public can't enjoy them is disheartening. (Well, I will make an exception for the Aztek Pace car)

The auto companies will be better off negotiating concessions from the union so that while they don't bear the burden or all of the blame for the state of the companies, they go back to wages and benefits similar to their competition. In addition, the management need to restructure so that they innovate again in areas other than marketing. I'm tired of the Japanese, Germans and even the French coming out with new technologies and then the American companies paying them to put their name on it. (See Hybrid technologies as just one example) They need to stop playing catch up and start leading. Cadillac and Lincoln used to be the Standards of the world, now the Caddys are playing second fiddle to BMW, Merc, and Lexus, Lincolns are no more than chromed up Fords

Use the money to invest in capital - both intellectual and physical. I'd rather see my money go to that than go to the damn greedy banks and credit card companies. (I guess I value incompetence more than greed)
