Default Cobalt One Piece Pads for your Corvette

Hi guys,

Brake pads are often a misunderstood component of a car, and how to choose what is right for you.

Know what you are doing with your car, should be the first question you answer. Choose based on your particular application and from a proven pad manufacturer with experience in the “Stopping” business and with ties to top level pro racing. Top teams push the pads to the outer limits.

We have used many different pads ourselves in the past, but it is hard to beat the performance and support that you get from a company like Cobalt.

Cobalt has been supporting Professional Racing series' such as ALMS, GrandAm, SCCA Pro, and the FIA.

After the first time Lou used them, he has not found a better pad anywhere, Period.

Now to Cobalt's one piece C6Z06 design.

1. Cobalt XR1 and XR2 compounds were tested by GM Performance Division and found to be the best compound for factory ABS calibrations.

2. Cobalt worked directly with GM Performance Division in the creation of their one piece design. While maybe not the first on the market, they were the first GM proven design.

3. The OEM 'Pad Pins' were designed to be retained into the pad per GM so no caliper modifications needed to be done. Cobalt designed the factory spring collar on these pins to be retained as well making for a tight fit but for good reason. This is designed as to keep all of the shear force from braking torque, to not be applied solely on the end pin.

4. From what Lou has said time and time again, the high brake torque and ease of modulation allows the driver to control his braking level linearly which is the what most drivers want.

5. Cobalt pads DO NOT need to be bedded in. We start races on fresh green pads, and they are ready to go on the first lap. A little rubbing on the pace lap and they are ready.

6. Wear- we had planned to run the full 10 hour Petit Lemans race on one set. Nice to be able to do that. Now of course, we run thick pads (28mm) but heading in to turn 10 at 165mph down to a second gear corner is not easy on the brakes.

We have used the new one piece Z06 pads with all the compounds and the performance is still there.

Thanks for listening.

Give us a call if we can help.
