Coilover question c5/c6z for HPDE use
Hi- for those selling or running the coilover conversions- what problems are presented by holding the car's weight by upper shock mount? The way I see it, the GM mount was not designed for that load, The normal spring load is put to the center of the cradle then to the cradle mounts right on the frame. I was curious what kind of bracing might be needed or available, etc. (otherwise I could see stress issues in the long term)
I like the thought of the adjustability and tuneability of the coilover, I run coilovers on my 68 camaro, but that's a tube chassis car.
thanks! Dan

This has been discussed in SO many topics on this forum, it is just been exhausted. Bottom line....we'll never know for sure if GM designed the mount for coil-overs, but there are thousands and thousands of C4-C6 generation Corvettes on coil overs for over 10 years on the street and track. I have personally been on this forum since 1999, I have only seen a SINGLE reported case of failure since that time and there have been no other documented cases that were ever reported.
So, it is a risk, but based on the real world numbers, as very very small one.

cool, unfortunately when I searched I found more stuff on for-sale, dealer promos, etc I missed that it was already asked...
I'm toying with making my c5 a more dedicated track car and the coilovers is one of the 'hmmmm...' items!
