Mine came from Northern Tool, has LED lights and I have never changed the batterey. It is an indispensible item in both my garage and track tool box.

buy the cheapest one you can find that has LEDs. The kind with regular light bulbs go through batteries too quickly.

Get a Petzl. Find one you like from their line and you shouldn't be disappointed. Everyone I know in the Army uses one for the most part. At least everyone I dealt with in Afghanistan. They have something like a 3 year warranty, and will replace it if it fails.

Retired USAF Pararescue. Did lots of mountain climbing and other work in dark remote, very wet, unbelievably dry, extremely hot and extremely cold locations. Petzl is what I have. REI should have them among the other brands they carry.

LED should be good enough for close up work on the car, and the batteries will last much longer than with incandescents.

going with that one above looks brightess, goes from spot to flood and it rotates.

I think I'll wear it to bed so I can see when I get up to take a whizz without the lamps waking her up

Head lamps can cost as much as you are willing to pay. I have a princeton tech that was about $65 but it is waterproof/shockproof and just about everything else proof. I left it on the roof of my car once and it fell off going down the road and I went back to find it and it still worked great.

My experience with the cheaper ones is that they dont always stay adjusted to where you aim the light they start to fall down. Another thing about nicer ones is the warranty...I left the batteries in mine by accident and they exploded and busted the case. I sent it back and they sent me another one no questions asked.
