I get it too and it is very fun to watch. But it seems a lot like bull riding. At least I know when on 4 wheels I wont just all of a sudden go air born in the middle of the corner for no apparent reason.

I hate watching motorcycle crashes. Ever since I saw the video of an accident where the course worker was cut in half while trying to help a down cyclist. I can't even watch motorcycle races anymore, that upsetting visual memory is so disturbing to me.

Come on now, it's not that dangerous. The worst thing that has happened to me has been compression fractures of T5-T8 and that was motoXing. Road racing I've only had fractures of one collar bone and one metatarsal. I've also had a few dislocations and torn up joints too, but that's what orthopedic surgeons are for. They're like mechanics for cars, you break it, they fix it.
If you want an activity with no risk I recommend golf.

they are young and take a good bounce. I had plenty of them and only went down once as I left the side stand down. I rode them pretty extreme and they were not as good. I still like watching them at Pocono. Usually one guy gets air lifted for each event. If things were better I'd have a new Ducati 1098.

After the first time you feel the track undulations in contact with your knee pucks, you'll be hooked. I love driving my Corvettes, but there's no feeling like hanging off the side of the bike, dragging your knee around a corner. JMO

I had some pretty tough hits (cars)just racing bicycles and then decided to try a road bike with plans to race. I was forced off the road at just 70MPH and went through a steel, aluminum, cinder block, glass, etc bus stop, you could barely tell what color the bike was(red), I walked away and though my right hip is still numb decades later I was pretty lucky. I believe smart enough to keep to 4 wheels for my talent level at least

I thought I had it bad but I once met a guy that high sided at Sears Point and had 16 broken bones and vertibrae (spelling) so he gave up riding and became the counter weight on a side car bike instead, pretty crazy stuff to say the least.

Yeah, that's a pretty grotesque video. I stopped watching after that; seems there were quite a few fatalities documented there.
OTOH, I think (hope) that bikes that are run at tracks as DEs aren't as close to the edge as the professional races. At least I haven't heard of any serious accidents up at MSR, and they run bikes there several times a year.

It looks like most of the fatalities were caused by the next rider coming through.

My dad died in a motorcycle/semitruck accident before i was born...(my mom was prego with me)
My Grandpa on my moms side was a competitive motocross rider until 15 years ago due to a bad accident that completely thrashed his knees
My uncle broke his leg racing on the streets
Yeah i think i'm gonna start riding once i get out of college
