Default Ethanol or not??

Have not seen much discussion on the used of gas with ethanol in it. This week end had to settle for it because there was no gas in my area. Does anyone want to comment on the pros and cons??

Thanks

Assuming you're meaning for track use, I've heard of no problems. The BTU density of E10 is about 10% lower than plain gasoline, but the octane rating is higher. So, while your engine *might* run a bit leaner (due to the lower density), there doesn't seem to be any problems in stock engines from a detonation standpoint.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

All the gas around here is 10% ethanol. Some is 92 octane and some 93 octane. I have run the 93 in the Z06 at track events all year without problem. Nothing to worry about.

Been running it ever since they made the changeover in NY State several years ago. Really not a lot of pros and cons. Its all you can get so you will have to live with it.

Bill and Chris are correct. Almost all fuel is 10% ETOH now and has been for a year or so.

It will cost you milage and power however on a normally aspirated engine designed for gasoline.
76,000 = BTU of energy in a gallon of ethanol
116,090 = BTU of energy in a gallon of gasoline
So if you run 90-10 gas-ethanol, and do the math, you only have 96.5% of the energy of pure gasoline, or about 20 HP on a C6Z.

Interestingly, we now have two stations in our area that are advertising "No Ethanol" gas. And, in the presidential debate, McCain made a point of calling out ethanol subsidies as one item he wanted to go after.

So, hopefully, the sun is beginning to set on this boondoggle.

Have a good one,
Mike
