Thunderhill repave
See the new pavement for yourself!
Lap time isn't that great, around a 2:10. I was nursing stock brakes and seeing high engine oil temps but at least now you can see the new pavement.
Overall they did a great job. The surface is very smooth with only a few exceptions. The biggest is a seam on the backside of the bypass. I ended up going wider than normal to avoid it since my suspension is pretty stiff.
Enjoy.

Safety Car
Middle? I'm trying to gauge your line versus mine. You seemed well off some of the curbs and markers that I used to brush/use prior to the repave. I don't have video or times, unfortunately.

I usually clobber, jump or ignore the curbs at Thill myself. But that was the old track this is the new. Additionally the camera is mounted on the nose of the car in the middle so the curbs that I did use this time appear off to the side in the video.
I'm sure I can turn a quicker time, but I'm shifting at 5k to keep my oil temps under 300. Time for an oil cooler.

Nice video! Thunderhill is a fun track - I ran it for the first time in August and enjoyed it. The elevations changes are interesting and were pretty unsettling to the car I was driving. The interesting thing about Turn 3 and "The Bypass" which I guess is Turn 5 is that you land on the backside of the hill on an off-camber right-hander. So, you have to get all your braking done and be pointed the right direction before you crest or you'll end up in the dirt!
Not many walls at Thunderhill other than on the front straight, but some of the "natural barriers" which are basiclly berms are pretty gnarly - I noticed the one on the outside of Turn 8 several times as I was flat-footed through there in 5th gear and running out of runoff!
The pavement really is very nice - exceedingly smooth compared to anything else I've ever run on. I'll be back in December to run it for 25 hours straight, after that my opinions may differ!

Likely not! Thankfully, this is a heavily modified Factory Five Racing GTM - currently the only one in the world that is built for, and actively racing. It's got an ASA LS3, C5 suspension (coilovers) and a custom-built Porsche Racing 6-speed gearbox. They've spent most of this year adding performance and reliability to the car, so I think we've got a very real shot at a class win and an overall podium. Car will be turning 1:55's or so in race trim.
More information about the car here. My writeup and lots of pictures of August racing in the GTM at Thunderhill here.
Car used to be painted red and EVERYBODY thought it was a Ferrari - still kinda has that look.
