Default Z06's go "KA-BOOM"-- Flaming Roman Candle

Wow. At a DE this weekend-- a big KA-BOOM!!! And a HUGE Fireball flowing out the back of a Z06 rolling down the front straight. What a bummer for the pilot.

No mods.

Talked to another Z06 owner a month ago-- he was on his THIRD motor. Apparently an oil return line was prone to collapsing-- they didn't catch that until the second motor failed.

Sure would hate to talk to those dealers.

Was it blue and kicked connecting rods out of it......Maybe at Mid-Ohio .......Me thinks me know who it is......

GM ought to prevent things like that from happening..............

I take it you mean C6 not C5? It's a shame with all that has gone into those engines that they are going to get a bad rap over this kind of problem. GM should have fixed/recalled them. It's just embarassing on a $70k car.

There are several documented oil line issues, including many leaks. Mine has been in twice for oil line leaks and is finally fixed. That really sucks for this guy. This is what I like about having an open deck trailer, I can get underneath and see what is going on before and after an event.

The 09 fixed the problem with larger capacity dry sump +2.5 qts, more baffles, etc. If possible upgrade to that dry sump or convince the dealer to do so.

It will help one problem and maybe cause a different problem.

Photos would have been just amazing. Don't think anyone got any. Connecting rod out through the bottom of the motor, metal scattered for 150 yards.

Well the main issue is the pump not returning the oil into the tank fast enough. Some say it's a line issue, others say it's a pan issue, others say it's a pump issue. I personally think it's a little bit of all of those issues. So what is a bigger tank going to do. Well give it more time to recover. But did they fix the real issue??? Not really. But it will get rid of some the warrenty issues that have came up. Breather systems don't deal with a extra couple quarts in the engine, heads full of oil, oil spraying around the lower end, only time will tell.

It isn't the car in question, but here is footage of an incident CF member
ScaryFast experienced last year

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...86464075436790

He recounted the event and provided pictures of the aftermath
in the following thread: C4 Fireball Video.

In his case, the fire occured because of a leak. The engine remained
intact and was G-t-G after the leak was repaired.

If you are talking about Mid-Ohio, 2nd gear is the correct gear for the carousel....especially in a C6z with the long gearing....

The question still was not answered....Was it blue ????
