Default Moving to East PA or West NJ - Track Days?

I just took a new position with my company and will be working in NJ, but most likely living in the Easton/Bethlehem, PA or surrounding area.

I'm going to miss all the friends here in FL as well as my home track (RRR) and my new found love (Sebring), but I'm pretty excited about "the Glen" and of course NJ Motorsports Park.

Having a mixed marriage (my wife drives a Porsche) I have benefited from being a PCA member and have run about 60% of my track days with the PCA folks here in FL. They have been very open to having other makes of cars at their events, but I understand some of the Northern chapters might be less accepting of non-P cars. I'm also a NASA member and member of Chin Motorsports, both of which have events at places like Watkins Glen I think.

Anyone know about the PCA chapters? Any other organizations do HPDEs open to multiple marques? Any Corvette specific?

Thanks!
Jim

Within 5 hours you have

Glen (1 course)
NJMP (2 courses)
Pocono (about a 6-7 configurations)
Monticello (new track)
Summit Point (3 tracks)
Lime Rock (one very expensive track)

The closest will be Pocono, you will be about 30 minutes from the track.

Hey! Congratulations on the job and welcome to NJ/PA.

If you want to run with PCA, the Riesentoter region covers your area (I'm almost sure). Riesentoter is a good bunch of people. They do allow outsiders to join the fun. I used to run with NNJR (Northern New Jersey) and they typically don't allow in any non-P types for their track events. Autocross they do, but not the track.

But for the best track days around, you'll want to check out Track Time 4 Cars....ok, I might be a little bias...but you should check us out. www.tracktime4cars.com. We've got several dates coming up at New Jersey Motorsports Park....hint hint.

Good luck to you!!

Michelle

Welcome. Check out PDA/NASA northeast at PDAdrivingschool.com, they accept all car brands and go to all tracts in this area.

For a very fast club; but exclusive to Glen, check out Trackmasters.com, they also accept all car brands.

Hope to see you at the track soon.

Thanks for the scoop! Looking forward to it!

Also, for those in PA, any issues with emission testing a non-stock exhaust car (ie. long-tube headers)? I still have all emission controls in place, Cats, O2s etc and no codes.

Shattenbum (I don't think I spelled it right) PCA has been very active in the South Jersey/Phillie area for years. 30 years ago my local Corvette club co-hosted an annual Corvette-Porsche autocross with them. I believe they still host many events at tracks in the northeast.

I don't know many details, but I understand that there are 2 more potential tracks planned for your general area. These have been described as private/club type tracks, with no plans for spectator or pro events.

One is supposed to be built in PA, on a plot of land near the Delaware River, I think close to Stroudsburg. The property is within view of the Appalachian Trail and had been involved in a court battle over the fact that it could be seen (and/or heard) from the AT. There was an article in a local paper about new legislation in PA prohibiting what could be built within ear or eyesight of the AT, but the track was exempted because it was approved prior to the legislation. I haven't heard anything more about this track, though.

I know even less about the second one, but there have been stories published about a club type track planned for NY, in an area north of NJ.

I think you will be pleased with the number of tracks within a short distance of your new home. Congratulaitons on the new position and good luck!

Welcome to the Northeast.

Matt basically summed up the tracks and other people stated the organizations that are running at the tracks.

I do roughly 15-20 track days per year and I post the schedule of when ECS cars will be at a track on www.ecsracing.com . The more the merrier so if you want to go with a fun group let us know.

Oh, and BTW. More important that track days, be VERY careful where you choose to call home on either side of the river. There are bad ghetto's in Easton/Bethlehem as well as on the NJ side in Trenton. Picking a place to live in NJ is VERY tricky. You can go from Ghetto to mulit-million in less than 20 minutes.

I haven't run with them yet but I know several Vette guys run with the Niagra Region PCA at their Glen events.

I can do that on Long Island by crossing one residential street not 20 minutes
