Safety of harness and race seats for dual use (street/track).
Are race seats and belts better for (or as good as) the stock units?
I'm considering adding a harness bar, 5 point harnesses and a couple of the street "race" seats (i.e. Sparco Milano 2 or Corbeau A4's). I've read somewhere that a roll cage isn't necessarily safer for street use and that got me thing about the harnesses and seats.. and what implications they may have..

Gotchya.. So the seats sold as street are not really..
I guess that means the answer to the question is any car that is daily driven (even if going on track) is better off with stock seats and belts than anything else..
right?!?!

ok.. so whats the best setup for a dual use car?!?!
I would love to afford a dedicated HPDE car.. but thats impossible.. I'm trying to have as much fun as I can with what I have.. but I'd like to take any reasonable precautions..

Well, I guess it kinda depends on exactly why you're wanting to go to a "race" seat. If you're really set on significantly improving lateral support then you're going to have to go the route you've already investigated.
OTOH, if all you're really wanting is to have straight paths for the shoulder straps, then you could simply convert your seat back from stock to C5 sport seats. This lets you run the harness through the halo cutout, then when you're done racing you (well, I) just pull the harness back through the slot and let it all hang behind the seat. Not as good as a racing seat, but much better than the stock Z06 seat.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

PCA wont allow harnesses without race seats..
I agree with you the stock seat lateral support is less than adequate. I know someone has already gone through this.. any info is greatly appreciated!!

I just do DEs. Since many groups now say that you must have a pass through in order to use harnesses I made the decision to buy the Caravaggio seats. They work well on track with my harness and also on the street with the OEM belt. Plus they mount to the stock seat rails so you keep most all of the power functions.
