Default Rear spindle nut.

I am changing the bushing in the control arms. I need to remove the rear axel spindle nut. I do not have a socket that fits it. Does some one know what size socket it takes. I know it is bigger than a 32mm.
thanks

Its a PITA to find a 34 too.

Napa did not carry them, sears, etc...I borrowed my neighbors 35 which worked great for taking it off but I had to goto a few stores to find a 34 to put it back on with.

Auto Zone stores carry them - think that I paid $14.95 for the socket.

I found mine at Carquest. The quality is not bad and it is guaranteed. I had no problems loosening the spindle nut at all with a standard breaker bar.

Thanks to all of you. I found one a NAPA for about $15. It is a 34mm impact socket. It is intended for spindle nuts. Apparently a lot of GM and other brands use the same size nut. I broke it loose with just a normal 1/2" breaker bar.

Well the front is done. It was pretty straight forward. Not having a press and not wanting to burn the old bushing out I drilled several holes through the old bushings relieving some of the compression pressure making it easier to knock out.

The rear is something else. I have one side apart which took me a few hours to do. That is including trips to NAPA for tools that I need. Not having done this before I think that things are going well. Now if I can remember how it goes back together....

Even though I marked that alignment points on the front the new bushing have changed the alignment some anyway.

Thanks for the offer. I am a driveway mechanic. Jack stands and a creeper. Also I am a toolaholic so I do not mind buying tools. It would be nice to have a lift and car that disassembled itself.

Life is too short to buy cheap tools.

The first time I took off my driver side, I used a breaker bar and my jack handle and picked the car up off the jack stand, so I switched direction and stood on it instead.

Big enough lever, you can move anything.

Or in my case a lot of body mass.
