It's a 2009 model with the 600hp engine. Blue Devil I guess.
Professional driver very familiar with Vettes was driving.

I'd guess street tires.
From what I understand Good Year has a trailer full of tires there since it is factory testing. Using race or "R" compound tires for a factory street car test wouldn't tell them much.

I think the 09 Blue Devil/ZR1/SS... will have ~ 650 hp., bigger tires, Bremo brakes and less weight.
Still 2:00.xxx is IMPRESSIVE.
Does anyone have the expected weight on the 09 ?

The tires on the z06 are already 325 -- I don't think I've ever heard of tires wider than 345!
If they have brembo's that will be good, we can retrofit our z's with them.
I wonder what they will do to keep the s/c cool?
If they are around 2:00 then those would have to be some pretty sticky street tires.

They appearantly had the track rented this past Tuesday and Wednesday according to some folks at the Chin event.
It sure would be nice to know for sure about the tires, as I've done 2:05's in a stock Z06 with used slicks, and think it would do 2:03's at least on fresh tires (and no traffic). I think a Blue Devil on real track tires should be able to drop under 2 minutes.
Some of the guys got pretty good looks at the cars, but the track was sealed off from the public for the test.

I read that the 09 that was tested @ Nurburgring a few months ago was fitted with 345's on the rear... Michelin's as I recall.
The new "Stones" (Bridgestones) on Nissan's GT-R have a wear rating of "70" as I recall. That's damn sticky for "street tires".
It's all Good... more hp. better brakes, stickier tires, lighter weight...
And has anyone seen the specs on the new Ferrari... 430 Scudiera (sp?). It appears the electronic aids are filtering down from Ferrari's F-1 cars too.

Maybe the test was after hours. I've been at a few track days when big time teams show up as you're leaving the track.
